If you carry a torch for the torches of World Showcase, today featured a unique sight to see as the iconic structures undergo their refurbishment.
The Imagineers and techs on-site at EPCOT tested out the torches for general maintenance, lighting each torch individually.
As they lit the torches, they called out the number of each torch right before lighting it.
Here, you can see the torch near the Germany Pavilion being lit.
You know, if you squint your eyes and hum “We Go On,” you can pretend IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth is still playing. I’m gonna go cry now…
One of our reporters spotted one of the lit torches accidentally singed a nesting bird. Don’t worry, it got away.
Getting back to the technicians, they were testing the torches using a computer, which could mean that lighting the torches one-by-one may be an element in HarmonioUs, the new nighttime spectacular coming to EPCOT later this year.
Could they be testing something we’ll see in the future? Only time will tell…
As of the writing of this article, whether the torches will return during the remainder of EPCOT Forever’s run is unsure, but we can say for certain that they will be back by the time HarmonioUs premieres at the park. And we can also say for certain that we’ll be eagerly anticipating when they light up World Showcase Lagoon once more!
