Even in the midst of the COVID-19 closure at Tokyo Disney Resort, construction rages on. Last week, we took a (distant) look at the progress on Cinderella Castle, but now we’re looking at a bit more of a small-scale improvement––digital LCD displays at Disney Resort Line stations.

Back in September, we reported on the replacement of platform guard doors at the four Disney Resort Line stations. It seems the second phase of improvements includes these new digital displays. First spotted at Tokyo Disneyland Station, these new displays replace the old LED displays (shown below). The new displays feature an analog clock, an indicator for train headways, and a map showing where trains currently are. Above, we can see that one train has just left Tokyo Disneyland Station, while the other is at Tokyo DisneySea Station. Additionally, a ticker on the bottom shows up-to-date information about the resort and Disney Resort Line operations.

The old displays, in place since 2001 and still in use at three other stations (for now), feature a physical analog clock as well as two LED displays. The scrolling text also gives resort and Disney Resort Line operation information, but gives little indication on train position other than when the monorail leaves the previous station.

It’s nice to see work continuing while the resort is closed. There’s still no set date for reopening at this time, but stay tuned to WDWNT for the latest on the global resort closures.
