Chadwick Boseman, most known for portraying T’Challa, King of Wakanda and the Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, passed away on Friday from colon cancer at the age of 43. Boseman portrayed the role in four Marvel films, including Black Panther. In the wake of his passing, friends, fans, co-stars, and colleagues have been mourning his loss and paying tribute to him across social media, including executives from Disney and Marvel—and now, Disney Legend Whoopi Goldberg is calling the Disney Parks to action by asking them to build a Wakanda land in honor of the Black Panther.
In a recent tweet Whoopi directed to the “people in charge of building NEW experiences” at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, she reiterates that the parks do not need another Frozen-themed land, but could instead use a new Wakanda-themed land, as tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman:
Black Panther is slated to appear within the upcoming new Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, with auditions being held for stunt performers to play the superhero. Prior to the theme park shutdown, Black Panther had a popular meet-and-greet within the park’s Hollywood Land area.
Thankfully, guests will be able to travel to Wakanda—in a sense, if and when the Avengers Campus E-Ticket attraction is built within the Avengers Headquarters, where the Quinjet was recently landed. This building, which will open in phase two, will become the future entrance to a brand-new attraction “where you will step onboard a Quinjet and fly alongside the Avengers in an epic adventure to Wakanda and beyond.” (Do note that this attraction has already been quietly shelved for Hong Kong Disneyland for some time now.)
For now, these propositions are merely wishful thinking from eager fans looking to pay tribute to one of the greatest actors of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and an inspiration to children and Marvel fans throughout the world, but it’s fun to imagine what could come to the Disney Parks. Would you like to see a Black Panther-themed Wakanda land or attraction come to Disneyland or Walt Disney World? Let us know in the comments.
Wakanda Forever.
Unsure if the marvel rights allow it in Florida, but I think getting rid of Dinoland USA in AK and transforming into either Wakanda or an Indiana Jones land would be epic.
Having Indiana Jones within an animal-themed land makes as much sense as having Princess & the Frog in the Wild West. But then, they do have Finding Nemo as part of Dinoland and Na’vi River Journey, Everest, and Kali River Rapids barely have any relevance to the park anyway. Kali doesn’t even have any animals in it.
I always thought “Wakanda” would be an absolute FANTASTIC addition to Animal Kingdom. To me Rafiki’s Planet Watch is outdated, and there is a decent chunk of land that is empty in between the train to RPW as well. I think you could in theory incorporate the current RPW, keep the petting zoo, animal encounters, and facilities in the area and retheme it to a Wakanda Conservation and Research Facility and such, then build a themed area with an E-Ticket attraction in the empty area. The only problem that could/will arise is Universal still holds the theme park rights to Marvel properties in Florida since building Marvel Super Hero Land in IOA and may hit Disney with it if Black Panther is one of the IPs they can not use.
Wakanda could potentially fit in at either Animal Kingdom (Africa) or Epcot (Adventure Outpost), and I don’t believe Black Panther is part of the “Marvel family” at Universal- which means he’s fair game.
Ever since Black Panther came out I’ve been wishing for Wakanda in Animal Kingdom. It’d be so epic with the huge panther mountain, a ride inspired by the vibranium mines, and a Star Tours/Millennium Falcon scenic your (with a new component of course). It’d be amazing technology and nature combined.
Disney fans give them an inch (splash mountain) and they walk all over Disney.
I’d agree if the movie was any good
Build it in Disneyworld
Who cares?!?
They should build Wakanda in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. It could go between Africa and Pandora – The World of Avatar.
This would have to be in the future. I worked in the corporate sector for 32 years. I know the cash flow problems Disney is having. That is why all new capital expenditures have been postponed. Disney dies not have the money
His death was very sad but Disney doesn’t build new lands/attractions for every celeb that dies who was in a Disney movie. I’m not a Marvel fan and I don’t care if they do it or not but it’s weird to ask for it for these reasons. Also, I would really love a Frozen land lol.
Agreed, while I LOVE the idea, these things should be done organically, that Disney has a plan in place and WANTS to do it, not because of some knee jerk reaction. Yes, Chadwick’s death is tragic, but doing this because of that fact should not be the reason.
I believe they will since it was the most gross single marvel movie
No it isn’t. Black Panther is #5. Avengers End Game is #1
While it’s tragic he passed away, there is little to no chance of a Wakanda area in DisneyLand. They are so tightly land-locked in Anaheim, there’s just no place to put a new land.
This is extraordinarily comical. We didn’t get a Beauty and the Beast land to honor David Ogden-Steirs and Jerry Orbach (Cogsworth and Lumiere). We aren’t getting a Descendants land in honor of Cameron Boyce. Sure, we have Galaxy’s Edge. But it wasn’t to honor Carrie Fisher who was a lot more prolific to her franchise than one guy is for just one movie. This is beyond delusional and pretty embarrassing for Whoppi. Sad.
A Wakanda themed land would be awesome in Animal Kingdom. I only went to Disney World one day last year to go to Flight of Passage. I prefer Universal. I’m not interested in Mario Land though and would go back to Disney for Wakanda.
Build a park for Carrie Fisher a true disney princess and legend
This is disgusting. Everyone is literally trying to capitalize and make a profit off a guy’s death. They either don’t realize it, or they do and they just don’t care. Not sure which is sadder. Why did nobody ask Disney to make this land when Chadwick was alive? And to do it as soon as his dies is cheap greed. And the sad thing is that Chapek, who only thinks with his wallet, would jump all over this. Also, I wonder if this has anything to do with him being a person of color and that’s the ONLY reason. Using that logic, why not make a memorial to MLK Jr? Someone who actually had historical significance on the country and wasn’t just an actor.
Wakanda Land is needed at a US Disney Park to balance the diversity of princesses and superheroes that give inspiration to the broad fan base of Disney’s footprint.
