Many attractions and shops in Magic Kingdom are being refurbished in time for the park’s 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021. It seems Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is next on the list. The top of the carrousel features images from Disney’s Cinderella, and it looks like these are being replaced and the gold leaf surrounding them are being refreshed.
Before it opened in Magic Kingdom as Cinderella’s Golden Carousel, this 100-year-old carrousel was The Liberty Carousel in Michigan’s Bell Isle Park. It was moved to Olympic Park in Irvington, New Jersey, and in 1967 the Walt Disney Company purchased it.
Though difficult to see on camera, some of the gold leaf seems fresher and brighter around certain images. The gold leaf on the right in the above picture seemed shinier than the gold leaf on the left.
Two of the images have yet to be replaced and temporary flat prints of the scenes are currently on the carrousel.
As you can see, there is just a dull gold surrounding this clocktower image, and there is some gold paint below it from where the entire piece was removed.
This image of Prince Charming and Cinderella dancing is also temporary.
The rest of the carrousel’s images are on raised pieces surrounded by the new gold leaf.
Nothing between the images from Cinderella has been updated yet.
We expect there will be new coats of paint and fresh gold leaf added to the rest of the carrousel as we approach “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”
