Just hours after a construction vehicle struck a section of the Walt Disney World Monorail track, crews were onsite to begin repairs.
A maintenance vehicle finally arrived a bit after the accident on the Express Monorail beam.
The walkway to the Contemporary is closed. Disney is telling guests that the walkway is closed for “routine maintenance”, loading guests onto busses for the short trip to Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Ironically, the bus travels through the area where the accident occurred.
Below, more workers appeared to be assessing the damage, which occurred when a large Badger vehicle had unknowingly had an apparatus extended upwards, striking the Express Monorail beam before coming to rest beneath the Resort Monorail beam.
Currently, there’s no timetable as to when the track will be fully repaired, though seeing these many people already working is an encouraging sign. Obviously, all monorail service is still suspended at this time.
Above, you can see just what damage was done to the monorail’s electrical system, and even to the concrete beam itself.
The Badger truck remains not far away from the scene. Traffic cones have been placed around the truck.
Currently, the Walt Disney World Monorail is closed, and it’s unknown if it will reopen later today, but we suspect it will be down for at least the remainder of the day. Keep reading WDWNT for more updates on this ongoing story.
