The Walt Disney Company announced two new additions to their board of directors today: Silicon Valley veteran Amy Chang, and the chief executive officer of Lululemon Athletica Inc., Calvin McDonald.
These appointments are effective immediately, and bring the total number of Walt Disney Company board members to 12. The board of directors is responsible for acting in the best interest of shareholders, and has duties such as the hiring and firing of high-level personnel and making executive compensation decisions.
Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger, who is set to retire in December, said that Chang’s experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning were valuable assets to add to the company, while citing McDonald’s experience with taking traditional retailers online.
“Amy Chang and Calvin McDonald are highly respected leaders with a deep understanding of the nexus between technology and the consumer experience, and we are excited to have them join the Disney board,” he said.
Chang founded an artificial intelligence company, Accompany, which was purchased by Cisco. She has also worked at eBay, McKinsey, Intel, AMD and Motorola.
McDonald joined the athletic apparel giant Lululemon as CEO in 2018, and has helped it grow to over 500 store locations in 17 countries.
