Disney is surveying guests about a possible Star Wars resort hotel experience at Walt Disney World, which would take place on an “actual” Star Wars Starship…
The survey is not being conducted by Disney, but rather by a contracted third party. The survey includes concept art and many details of what the experience would be like…
This all-inclusive, 2-night immersive resort experience at Walt Disney World would include:
- The opportunity to experience a 2-day story set in the Star Wars universe
- Be surrounded in a continuous, story-driven entertainment experience as it unfolds over the course of the 2-night stay
- Have personal interactions with Star Wars characters, live performers throughout the starship (experience the story or simply observe the action according to personal preference)
- Engage in the story with programs such as flight training, ship exploration, lightsaber training, and personalized secret missions (both on the starship and throughout the Star Wars themed planet)
While staying aboard an all-inclusive luxury “starship” at Walt Disney World, guests will stay in luxury accommodations offering:
- All meals during your stay: buffet breakfasts, lunches, & signature evening dining
- Featured entertainment & dinner shows
- Exclusive park admission to the Star Wars themed land at the Walt Disney World Resort (a new land opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019)
- Star Wars starship amenities including pool area & water garden, fitness area, on-board cantina, and robotic droid Butlers
As of right now, the experience would be priced at roughly $900 to $1000 per guest.
So basically, in summary, the experience would include…
- 2 nights in an immersive luxury resort that looks and feels like a Star Wars spacecraft (set check-in and check-out dates so everyone is immersed on the same “story” timeline)
- Room(s) that accommodate(s) up to 4 people, with an interactive “view” (galaxy or pool/atrium)
- Every meal from checking-in on day 1 to check-out on day 3 (5 meals total, including 2 buffet breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 2 signature dinners with evening entertainment)
- 1 day of Walt Disney World theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to visit Star Wars-themed land on day 2
- Story-driven entertainment that unfolds over the course of your stay (including live character chance encounters, and the opportunity to watch or engage in the story through things like personalized secret missions, flight training, starship exploration, and lightsaber training)
While this is just a survey at this time, it is worth noting that the presence of concept art and the inclusion of the Star Wars themed land in these plans likely means that this is a pretty serious project at this point. Many of the experiences above also sound very similar to aspects of the the Star Wars land discussed in the panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando.
Stay tuned as more information on this proposed project becomes available.
I cannot express how much I hope this happens.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY !!!!!!!
AMEN!!!
What he said! :)
That resort looks so nice ????
sounds like a great idea hope it come off
Looks awesome!
Did they really use the term starship? I can hear Gene Roddenberry’s family drawing up the lawsuit already.
Starship is a universal term for a space vehicle and cannot be copyrighted. It’s a very common word used in lots of different space-themed media (movies, books, shows, comics, etc.).
I never said they had a legitiment argument. That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t try to though. Besides, it’s more surprising that Disney would use a term that is so closely associated with Trek.
To quote Piccolo from DBZ Abridged, “NEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDD!”
The term “starship” is used several times in the Star Wars films, comics, cartoons, and books. I don’t see it as being at all “closely related” to Star Trek…
really? Opening crawl of A New Hope: ‘Princess Leia races home aboard her starship’
Not like when Obi Wan said to target those federation starships quickly in Attack of the Clones….
I know I am in for this. $900 to $1000 is a great price. I love this idea.
I think they mean PER DAY
PER DAY and PER GUEST
Looks like per guest for the whole experience, which includes 2 nights and 5 meals, etc.
I agree with Danielle. That’s the price per person for the whole experience.
Considering how much it normally costs to stay in a Disney resort, go on a Disney cruise, etc, I think they may mean per night and just worded this poorly. They would probably have a minimum of 2 guests per room.
I’m new to this site. Do we absolutely know this is happening or is Tom always this presumptuous?
Tom said repeatedly in the article that this is only in the survey stage at this point, so that should answer both of your questions.
Yet the headline essentially says it’s happening “Disney Creating…” No mention of survey – or Disney exploring etc…
Then how the heck is this *breaking* …. someone needs to learn to use the word properly.
I agree, the word breaking should only ever be followed by the words 2: Electric Boogaloo
or Bad….
No. I am the one who Comments
So why in the headline does it say they are creating it? Clickbait much?
That’s basically what WDWNT has become known for: clickbair headlines and the worst comment section this side of 4chan.
Fair play and both very true.
And here you are trolling along….tra la la la la
Huh. Looks like Tom knew what he was talking about after all. Huh.
I wanna go!!!!!
While I personally LOVE the idea, and would book it in a heartbeat, I think Disney would get a lot more bang for its buck out of retrofitting one of the old All Star resorts into a Star Wars theme. Just pick whichever has the lowest booking and flip it! It would become the most booked resort OVERNIGHT, while also earning bonus points from guests for being a value resort. Heck, they should do both!
This is actually what I had hoped for a while. AOA is a great concept resort, just do the same with Star Wars.
All Star is too far away from the Studios… the concept is to have something that almost leads into the Star Wars area of the park…. I mean i guess you could figure out a way to make the gondola system that is being proposed into an immersive space travel experience or the bus… but this really sizzles with full immersion.
Contemporary resort would be perfect for this Star Wars theme. The current modern theme is dated anyway.
As my wife was describing this, I immediately was convinced they would retrofit one of the hotels on the new gondola system, thinking it must be All Star Sports. But the 3 hotels are Caribean Beach, A. of animation, and Pop Century. I cant see them changing those. And the gondola pad is at the entrance of HS, not near Star Wars Land. So I wonder where this thing will go?
as a DVC member AND a Star Wars fan, I would love to see this happen. I can’t wait for the Star Wars-themed land to be complete, this just adds beautifully to it.
I MAY HAVE SCREAMED IN EXCITEMENT. i’M TELLING EVERYONE I SAW A MONSTER THOUGH.
Ok. Turn off your caps lock while you’re at it, sparky.
Lol
It must be done. I have wanted to do this since 1977.
Questioning the legitimacy of this, especially since A: it’s supposed to be a survey on Swagbucks and B: Tom doesn’t seem to know how to spell Swagbucks.
Does this mean that Star Wars land could be another charge?
How would you ever come to that conclusion?
What? You’re just being stupid.
I’m in, let me know when.
Never
Oh my. Start saving NOW!
Please build this whatever takes build this
I find it interesting that the Facebook posting of this article is filled with hatred toward Disney using the Star Wars IP in their offerings, and you click through to here and the comments are filled with praise. Just interesting how the groups are broken out.
As for me, I don’t give a darn what they create as long as it is kept family friendly. It’s bound to be done well as long as it’s not a value.
I don’t see this as being any different than offering Pirate themed rooms, just done on a full resort scale.
because the majority of Facebook commenters are the EU brigade, who hate Disney for wiping the EU and not making the books into movies
The price seems ridiculously cheap. A night at the Grand Floridian on a “value” day is almost $800 dollars. Let’s say there are 4 people in the room. Admission for each person for 1 day at Magic Kingdom is about $100 per person. That’s $2000, without meals. Let’s assume $20 per person per meal (which seems low given two buffets), that is another $400, giving a grand total of $2400. And remember, this is on the cheap side for the Floridian. Going at a normal time, the price is closer to $1000 a night, admission closer to $120, and meals closer to $40 per, giving a price of closer to $3280. AND this is in 2017 prices, not in 2020 prices.
This starship gives you a “luxury resort room”, 5 meals, 1 day of admissions, and unique entertainment experiences for $2000 for a family of 4. Given what would seem to be a huge demand, plus the cost of building and staffing the hotel (I’m not sure if the robot butlers are actual robots or cast members), I cannot imagine the actual cost would not be double or even triple that amount.
So for $500 a night, I would be ALL OVER this experience. However, for $1500 a night with a 4 year waiting list…
My math sucks. $4000 for the family of four. Still seems too cheap.
I agree. Plus, this wouldn’t be an all the time thing. I could easily see us doing this once or twice. Tacking it on to a DVC stay.
It is almost Westworld….
Hmm clearly this idea has not run across my desk yet. Do not worry Gregory N. Baker, we will fix this little pricing error to ensure maximum profit… I mean Guest enjoyment. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I question this story. The Studios is somewhat sandwiched between a bunch of roads and the parking lot. Buena Vista Drive to the north, World Drive to the West, Studio Drive to the south and the massive parking lot to the east. There is no way they could alter (at least not easily) Buena Vista Drive nor World Drive (these are massive roadways). They could, perhaps, move Studio Drive further south (or create a breezeway over the road) or rip up and alter the parking lot. Whatever the case, the cost/benefit ratio doesn’t add up for a fanzine type of enterprise (no pun intended).
There is a huge chunk of unused land between Studio Dr and Victory way that is large enough to hold a resort the size of Art of Animation three times over. This land was set aside for conservation until last year when they released the conservation easement on it. Studio Dr. is also going away as a new entrance is being built from the corner of Victory and Osceola.
danlb_2000, Are you sure it is that entire area they got apporval for? I thought it was just the small area between Star Wars Land and the little drainage stream that they got approved. Do you have any info to share about this? It would be awesome if true.
Don’t question it. But it is just a survey, and anything can happen between asking questions and actually building it.
No-brainer… About times Disney caught back up with Universal Studios and took full advantage of their assets, can anyone say Harry Potter, Despicable Me, Transformers, in the words of Capt. Kirk “do it! do it! do it!” if you want to escape the blackhole of complacency. One more thing to keep Disney as the happiest place on earth. Think outside the box, think like Walt, and use the Force, the Disney Force.
Actually a quote of Captain Picard would be better….. Make it So
This sounds a little too much like WestWorld…hmm.
This sounds so amazing! Disney MUST make this happen!!! I second Kevin’s comment above “Shut up and take my money!”
Love this idea. It’d work just as well as a 999-room Haunted Mansion hotel.
Looks good to me!.. Much cheaper than a Star Wars Disney Cruise and probably more Star Wars jammed into those two days!
I certainly hope this happens!
Pretty sure that they’re planning the same hotel at the Disneyland Resort. The location for the new resort is close to Star wars Land and could provide a resort guest entrance right into the land.
They haven’t annouced any theme yet so it’s definitely possible!
Parks were packed most of 2016. Last thing Disney needs is another hotel. They really need to expand the parks to accomodate the rooms they already have.
Half and half. While it is a fact the survey came out, it’s just that – a survey. Something to gauge interest. And anything can happen between asking questions and when they start moving dirt. To start Disney is “creating” a Star Wars hotel is hyperbole at it’s best.
“The survey is not being conducted by Disney, but rather by a contracted third party through Swagbucks.com. ” Calling this one out as well beyond farfetched as much as I’d like to see it happen :-(
But the clicks keep on coming ;)
Ehh, not for me….I’m saving up for my Club 33 membership!
*Please be real, please be real, please be real, please be real*
Your headline is false. They are not creating it. They are thinking about it.
So since when has a design and concept phase not been part of creating? Did Walt Disney not create Mickey Mouse until Steamboat Willie was playing in theaters? Did Washington not create America until he chopped down a cherry tree? Did Prince not create partying like it’s 1999 until 1999? If they’re working on it, they’re creating it. If Tom said building, than yes he would be false
Please make this happen!!!
Great idea. Horrible name. Starship? What is this Star Trek?
Nerd Rage in 3…2…1
As pointed out above, the term “starship” is used many times in the Star Wars films.
If they do this right, and can time it with SW Land opening, omg you will not be able to get a room for years.
My family would love just say the words and we are there
Looks great
I’m down on this! Count me in!!!
I love the idea. But at $4000 for my family of four there is just now way. We’d want to spend time at the rest of the parks and stay for at least a week. At this price post this would probably be the only thing we could afford to do. Sad they keep coming up with these great ideas but price them out of reach for normal people.
This feels like a scam to me. When Disney world does surveys, they do it through their website at a link that includes Disney.com somewhere in it. I think Disney Parks isn’t involved in this at all, but maybe someone trying to copy them in Vegas or near Disneyland without Lucasfilm permission.
I would love to see this happen!!!
I will be the 1st person to make a reservation if this were to happen. Disney since you really can make magic happen, please let this be #1 on the magic list!
Fantastic hurry and get it done!!!! It will be great to be there.
Dan
Yes! They should have an upgrade to stay in the Millennium Falcon and other famous ships from Star Wars too! And be able to experience all the Star Tours versions. I could go on, but WDW should really just bring me in as a consultant!
Cody,
Thanks for the suggestion, but please don’t quit your day job.
They are taking the ideas from the abandoned “Nightly Kingdom” with a splash of the experiences on the cruise ships and giving people an ultra-personalized experience. I hate to think how long I’ll need to save but i am very excited at the possibility.
Heck, yes!
ok so how long will the pre booking be a year 2 years MORE and how much a night 500.00 just like the rides, over payed for 5 min of WTFE…..find something else to enjoy people LIKE NATURE.
Please please please do this would mean so much to me very exciting news
West World anyone? XD
On a brighter note, my life would be complete with an experience of such beauty.
Yes please.
Any chance they will be able to have more family sized rooms for 5-6 people…..our family (like many) is 2 adults and 3 children….so capacity would be a critical factor in whether we could afford….one cabin yes, two probably nope.
Disney hates big families. There are literally zero reasonably priced rooms on property for families over 6 people. And very, very few for even 5 or 6.
I am ready to book RIGHT NOW.
I wouldn’t mind working there as one of the interactive characters either!!!
GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Umm, yes!!! 100 percent Yes. But please don’t charge astronomic prices.
YES PLEASE
Sounds incredibly awesome but I will never be able to afford it so, concept art is as close as I can get.
omg I will be so happy if they do this cmon disney and make your fans happy!
Wow, what do these people do for a living? Two nights in this resort would cost more than a week’s vacation at a value with dining plan and spending money for my family.
Well there are people who save for many years to afford the trip. I assume a section will also be dedicated to DVC owners. Actually being a DVC owner is the only way I can afford to stay on the Grand Floridian on my upcoming family vacation.
As with most DISNEY resorts, the more “theme” they put into it, the more rediculously high priced it will be….
As fantastic as the pics depict this resort, you need to be very wealthy to afford it.
They have come with new brand name Tata indicom to provide you telecom services.
Chances are, when you were dating pre-marriage you just went out and met and
dated men. They end up with an unwanted pregnancy, an STD and a broken heart. http://victoriazfhm.soup.io
I wonder what the exteriors are proposed to look like? Will the façade appear to look like a Starship from the movies or a completely original design?
