Charcuterie with a selection of imported Spanish Meats, Cheeses, Olives and an Herb Vinaigrette – $6.50
They slice the meats fresh right here in the booth before assembling this brilliance in a cone. No, you can’t eat the cone, but you can eat all the cheese, olives, and meats packed into it. There’s value here for the price, due to the freshness of all the ingredients, plus it’s just tasty. We recommend.
Paella with Rice, Chorizo, and Shrimp – $6.00
Spanish-style paella is a staple at the Spain Marketplace, but this time around, it wasn’t as good as the charcuterie. The rice seems a little overdone and the shrimp is nothing to write home about. If anything, the chorizo is the winner of the dish, giving it a little kick. Otherwise, the paella is blander than we expected.
Seafood Salad with Shrimp, Bay Scallops, Mussels, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, White Balsamic Vinegar and Smoked Paprika – $6.25
This dish is really oily. This is understandable, given the mixture is tossed in olive oil, but when half the glass is filled with oil, that’s just not fun. Still, there’s a healthy mixture of shrimp, scallops, mussels, olives, peppers, and more, making for a unique and flavorful offering. The price might be a bit too much if you don’t get a few good pieces of seafood, but we feel it’s a risk worth taking.
Estrella Galicia Cerveza Especial Lager (5.5% ABV) – $5.00 for 6 oz., $9.00 for 12 oz.
Estrella Galicia describes their Cerveza Especial Lager as having “excellent aromatic balance between malts and hops” with “golden color, clean and bright.” Tasting notes include “Lightly floral and herbal flavors, with a moderate warm mouthfeel, and intense hoppy bitter taste that lingers [in] the mouth.”
*NEW* Kentia Albariño Rías Baixas ($13/bottle) – $5.00
Blue Ventures Wine Marketing, LLC describes this wine as “pale gold in color, the wine has a hint of fresh lemon on the nose and a bright freshness on the palate. Crisp and fragrant with a touch of effervescence. A well-balanced wine with good minerality and acidity.”
Faustino VII Rioja Rosado ($10/bottle) – $5.00
Faustino describes this wine as “clean, bright, intense strong red color with lilac rim. On the nose is intense, red fruits aromas standout. Pleasant and balanced in the palate; red fruits notes standout. Medium finish.”
*NEW* Quinta del ’67 Almansa Garnacha Tintorera ($15/bottle) – $6.50
Bodegas Volver describes this wine as “deep red. Complex in nose with aromas of ripe dark berries, spicy, and some balsamic aromas. On the palate with a lot of structure, silky tannin and again lots of fruit, chocolate, licorice. Long and persistent finish. Very powerful and with a long life ahead.”
