Upper Deck Lawsuit
Earlier in the month, card game company Upper Deck filed a lawsuit against Ravensburger. Upper Deck is citing that Ryan Miller, former Upper Deck contractor, and current Ravensburger Lorcana designer, “for stealing and copying Upper Deck’s original game which Ravensburger repackaged and marketed as ‘Lorcana.”
Upper Deck plans to file the lawsuit in San Diego against Miller for “breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud” and also against Ravensburger for “unfair business practices.” In addition, the filing states that Ravensburger “acted in concert with Miller during much of the time relevant to this Complaint, resulting in a breach of Miller’s California contracts.”
Ravensburger responded nearly two days after the news broke, saying “We at Ravensburger stand behind the integrity of our team and the originality of our products. The baseless claims filed this week are entirely without merit, and we look forward to proving this in due time. In the meantime, our focus continues to be on developing and launching a fantastic game in August.”
We will continue to report on this story as it develops.
Lorcana Disney Parks Release Date Announced
While it has been previously announced that Lorcana will be available for purchase on shopDisney starting September 1, 2023, it was unknown when cards would be hitting the shelves at the Disney theme parks. According to Nerdist, Lorcana will be available to purchase in the parks beginning August 18, 2023, the same day that specialty stores will begin selling as well.
Potential Lorcana Comic Book Release
In a tweet from Christian Hoffer, an employee of Comicbook.com, a very mysterious image was posted with the Lorcana logo next to the Comic Book logo. Fans immediately began to speculate and wonder what this could possibly mean, with the leading theory being a Lorcana-themed comic book. In the ruleset for Lorcana, it reads, “Disney Lorcana is an exciting new collectible trading card game featuring glimmers of Disney characters who appear in both familiar and reimagined forms.” Perhaps a comic book would be a great way to see how these reimagined forms appeared?
Of course, this is all speculation, and we’ll have to see how the story develops over time.
