Magic Kingdom Barnstormer

Take flight above Storybook Circus with Goofy and his homemade stunt airplanes for a thrilling, junior roller coaster ride.

A colorful Barnstormer billboard features Goofy as a stunt pilot at Storybook Circus.

“Fly again soon!”

There’s not a whole lot to this coaster. In fact, most of the attraction’s names have been longer than the ride itself. In 1996, it began its life known as The Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm and continued to be called that until it was given a new name after a 2012 refurbishment of the entire land into Storybook Circus. At that point, the name was changed to The Barnstormer featuring Goofy as the Great Goofini. (A mouthful for sure.) At this point in time, the ride is usually referred to simply as The Barnstormer.

The Barnstormer is a small family roller coaster that provides some decent moments as the train (gussied up to look like a biplane) zips around several turns at a pretty good clip. The lift hill is only 30 feet tall so you are not going to lose your lunch on this one; however, little ones might be hesitant at the very slight intensity that makes up the coaster. A bank to the left here, another to the right there, “crash” through a billboard, come in for a landing and that’s The Barnstormer in action. Your little ones will love it and there’s a wee bit of joy that comes from riding it as an adult. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it won’t rattle your insides like other attractions you may encounter during your visit.

Behind the Schemes:

The only major change to The Barnstormer during the area’s 2011 reconstruction was the removal of a barn what had a similar cutout-silhouette as the current billboard.

Reality Check:

Disney Legend Bill Farmer has voiced Goofy since 1987, as well as providing a voice for Pluto. This native Kansan has also voiced Foghorn Leghorn (and others) in the film Space Jam, as well as Secret Squirrel on the Adult Swim series Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.

Walt Disney allegedly was not a fan of the Goofy character and often threatened to stop making the shorts altogether, but didn’t want to take work from his animators. This story has been refuted.

Despite internet rumors to the contrary, Goofy is not a cow. Bill Farmer has stated that while Goofy is probably not a dog, he belongs to the canine family, and is pretty much his own thing.

The site of The Barnstormer used to house Grandma Duck’s Petting Farm which had a cow with what appeared to be a Mickey Mouse “spot” on her side; of course, they named her Minnie Moo. She was removed from the park in 1996 and lived out the rest of her life at Fort Wilderness.
