Disney has revealed the new costumes that the Sun Bonnets — Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah — will wear when the reimagined Country Bear Musical Jamboree opens this summer at Magic Kingdom.
Sun Bonnets New Costumes for Country Bear Musical Jamboree
In a new Reel shared on the Disney Parks Instagram account, viewers can go behind-the-scenes with Sara Landesberg, an Audio-Animatronic Costumer with Disney Live Entertainment, who is helping to bring these new looks to life.
The Sun Bonnets have a brand-new pink and white look, featuring cowboy hats, ruffled skirts, and wrist cuffs. Below is a photo of what the Sun Bonnets looked like before the change.
Landesberg coordinates the different teams that come together to create a complete garment, hat, or any item for the jamboree — including every single rhinestone that is hand-placed on the costumes.
“I help source all the fabrics and components and rhinestones,” Landesberg explains. “I also work really closely with the patterning team to figure out how we’re actually going to make the garments come together in 3D, and how they’re going to fit the bears, who are all very uniquely shaped and different sizes.”
Dressing the bears is a bit challenging, as the Audio-Animatronics don’t move in the same way that humans do.
“They have lots of repetitive movement, so a lot of times we’ll add gussets or additional pockets of fabric to give them more room to move in those repetitive movements without destroying the costume,” she continues.
Once open, Country Bear Musical Jamboree will include easter eggs (and a familiar tune that fans of the original attraction may remember), as well as new renditions of Disney songs interpreted in varying styles of country music — including bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, rockabilly, and more.
