Friar’s Nook is a counter service restaurant located in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. This window is located outside of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train entrance and just to the side of Storybook Treats ice cream. Back in February, the location rolled-out a new Tater Tots menu with fried twinkies for dessert. This weekend the nook went back to its European heritage and starting offering bratwurst and a new variety of their tater tots.
Oh, what’s that? A second brat? Hmmm…
Pub Tots – $8.49
Tater Tots topped with cheese, bacon, and scallions. Fortunately, the tater tots are plentiful and come loaded with enough bacon to make anyone happy. They’re fried to a good crisp without overdoing the interior. I know these are pretty standard theme park fare, but they were done perfectly in this case. They certainly top any of the tot dishes from Woody’s Lunch Box.
Brat and Tots – $10.29
The bratwurst is topped with sauerkraut on a pretzel bun. While the sausage may not take up the entire bun that’s okay because it’s plump and cooked well to give a nice pop when you bite. The sauerkraut tastes rather fresh and isn’t as overpowering as it can be on other versions of this dish. It’s a really solid brat and a nice diversion from the typical Magic Kingdom food.
Vegan Brat and Tots – $10.29
If we felt that the vegan brat was actually better than the regular brat, then actual vegans and vegetarians (in theory) should love this option. It’s not on the regular menu, so you’ll need to ask a cast member for it, but it’s a rather large and great meat substitute that works well with the pretzel roll and sauerkraut. We found the vegan link way more flavorful than the regular and would certainly have it again. We just wish these also came with tots with a topping.
