Golden Oak Outpost is a quick service window in Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom. Years ago this was the McDonald’s fry cart, today it remains famous for specialty fries. Case being the chili queso fries added back in February. The pork cracklins have been removed, the chili fries remain. In place of the fried pork skin we have two new items: Jalapeno Poppers and Fried Cauliflower. Nothing says ‘I’m going to love this 95 degree day at Magic Kingdom’ like some fried food, so we ventured over to the outpost to get the goods.
Freshly made to then be stored in this heating unit until served. We’d rather wait a few minutes and get really crispy ones, although what we were served was quite good.
Cauliflower – Fried Spicy Battered Cauliflower served with Creamy Garlic Ranch Sauce – $4.99
This is the same cauliflower that Pecos Bill’s is serving on their taco trio. It’s well battered and fried to a golden brown, making the cauliflower palatable and rather tasty. The best part is the spicy batter which really does add a wonderful kick to each bite. Creamy Garlic Ranch sauce is served on the side and was a good option to dip the cauliflower into. We also enjoyed dipping the jalapeno poppers in this sauce, it’s very good.
Jalapeno Poppers – Breaded Jalapeno Peppers stuffed with Nacho Cheese served with our G.O.O. Sauce – $5.49
No, it’s not a goo sauce, it’s a G.O.O. sauce. Golden Oak Outpost. Get it? Anyway, the sauce is about as exciting as the quick service window. It’s a raspberry sauce that’s rather thick and best avoided. Ask for the garlic ranch instead, it’s much better and works well with the cheese-filled jalapenos. There’s plenty of cheese in the middle of each pepper. The peppers last for about 2-3 bites each, which gives plenty of time for the heat to come forward. They’re good, but you need to enjoy fried peppers to truly appreciate these. Overall these are both a unique and solid addition to the ever-changing Magic Kingdom quick service options around the park. Recommended on both counts.
When did the Chili Queso Fries become a snack credit? I thought I was mis-remembering, but I want back to your initial post when they were first offered, and there was no credit logo next to them. That’s a great steal!
Genuinely excited about the cauliflower! I make fried cauliflower at home but those look pretty amazing. Hope they stay on the menu til my next visit!
