REVIEW: New Mermaid Tail Cupcake Makes a Splash at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Another new specialty cupcake has made a splash at Walt Disney World this week. A lovely new Mermaid Tail Cupcake is now available from Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
For a limited time, you can get your hands, or fins, on this cupcake inspired by The Little Mermaid. It won’t cost much––just your voice! (Just kidding, it costs $5.99) The fluffy buttercream that tops this vanilla cupcake is primarily white with accents of sea foam green and silver glitter. A fine graham cracker sand is sprinkled over the top of the buttercream. The edge of the frosting has an assortment of berry flavored crispy pearls in shades of pink, red, and purple. The shimmering white chocolate mermaid tail is the highlight of the decoration.
The cupcake is a beautiful golden color and the buttercream looks smooth and creamy. We cut into the cake and discovered a pineapple compote center. There is a lot of thick filling piped into the middle. It’s a very strong, rich flavor and can be overwhelming if you don’t like pineapple. If you do, you’re in luck. It’s delicious. The butter cream has an airy, fluffy appearance and taste. The vanilla buttercream isn’t too sweet, so it combines with the pineapple flavor nicely. This treat takes on a sweet, tropical flavor with the pineapple compote and fresh cake.
The only fail was the mermaid tail. It was kind of gritty. I was skeptical, but the Cast Members told me it was indeed white chocolate. So, maybe I just got a bad fin. But the cupcake was delicious, and really worth the trip over to Art of Animation.
Adventurous cupcake eaters will enjoy this pineapple filled mermaid cupcake. It’s only available for a limited time, so swim over and check it out while you can. If you’re looking for a more classic flavored cupcake, we suggest you try the Princess Aurora cupcake.
