Yet another new cupcake has been spotted at the Walt Disney World Resort! This time, it’s at Gasparilla Island Grill, located within Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. Gasparilla Island Grill also debuted its Mimosa-Flavored Spring Cupcake recently, which we loved. The adorable new cupcake features a carousel theme with red and white icing, and topped with a white chocolate horse. Let’s take a look!
Carousel Cupcake – $5.99
The cupcake comes in a variety of different colored carousel horses. The cake (and flavor) remains the same no matter which color horse you choose!
I went with the green carousel horse to compliment the interior color scheme of the resort. The topper consists of a white chocolate carousel horse attached to a stick, with red and white buttercream icing and a confetti cake cupcake with vanilla custard filling.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a proper cupcake review without taking it on a photo shoot around the resort first, so enjoy!
Now for the good stuff – the taste. The cupcake is decently sized. It isn’t too small, but it isn’t too monstrous like some of the previous cupcakes we’ve tried.
If you enjoy a traditional birthday cake, this cupcake will be for you. The buttercream frosting is extremely sweet and resembles birthday cake icing almost identically. The confetti cake was moist, fresh, and also gave a birthday cake-like taste. The vanilla custard didn’t do much for me as I felt the frosting overpowered the custard entirely. Besides the texture of the custard, it was otherwise undetectable.
As you can see, there is a tiny amount of custard and a LOT of icing. This overpowers the custard, which I really don’t think was necessary to include in the first place.
Overall, this is an extremely cute, classic-looking cupcake with a really fun presentation. Being a big birthday cake fan, I enjoyed this cupcake a lot. It isn’t super adventurous, but I’d highly recommend picking this one up during your next visit to Disney’s Grand Floridan Resort!
