runDisney to Offer Exclusive Black Panther Medal for August’s Virtual 5K at 2019 D23 Expo

Visitors to next month’s D23 Expo can earn a special medal for signing up for the runDisney 2019 Virtual 5K… no heart-shaped herb required!

runDisney 2019 Virtual 5K Medal Black Panther D23 Expo

D23 showed off the medal in a recent article, featuring the emblem of the Black Panther. This year’s Virtual 5K is themed to Marvel’s 80th anniversary.

D23 Expo attendees can obtain the medal by signing up for the Virtual 5K, taking place this August, at this link. Then, at the Expo, guests can visit runDisney’s booth to pick up their medal, along with an additional exclusive item (if the above photo is any indication, it may be a pin modeled after the medal).

The terms and restrictions, from D23:

“D23 Expo runDisney Virtual August 5K registration is subject to capacity limits and may close at any time. Commemorative medal must be picked up by registered participant at the runDisney expo booth during the D23 Expo, August 23–25, 2019. Valid ID and proof of race registration is required. Admission to D23 Expo is required.”

As a runner who has yet to participate in any actual runDisney events (scheduling and paying for travel just for a race is not something I’ve been willing to do) I would love it if Disney would somehow open up virtual races to offsite runners (as so many other organizations are starting to do). I would pay a bit extra for my entrance fee if it meant they would ship me my medal. So, I was at first excited to see this, then disappointed that despite being a virtual event, this race still requires an extremely high degree of local participation.
