REVIEW: New Beef & Mashed Purple Potatoes Cone – Disney Halloween at Tokyo Disneyland

It’s time for Disney Halloween at Tokyo Disney Resort! And one of my favorite parts of any Tokyo Disney Resort is the array of snacks and food items available! In this series of reviews, I’ll be detailing every single new snack and counter-service item. Along with more traditional snacks, such as Maple Pumpkin Churros and Pumpkin Soft-Serve, sometimes the resort dabbles in something a little more… strange. That’s certainly the case with the Beef & Mashed Purple Potatoes Cone at Tokyo Disneyland!

Beef & Mashed Purple Potatoes Cone – Â¥500 ($4.67)

I’ve never been particularly sure as to why Tokyo Disneyland enjoys making this type of snack so much. I’ve never seen it outside of the parks, yet they tend to make some variation on this idea for every event. This time, it’s beef with mashed purple potatoes. For the uninitiated, purple potatoes are essentially Japanese sweet potatoes.

The cone is nicely presented. The smiley face cracker on top makes for a nice finisher. That yellow stuff on top is cheese, by the way

Honestly, this portion is a bit small for Â¥500. I think maybe Â¥300 or so would be more appropriate. The smiley face chip is actually quite delicious, almost like a less-greasy Lay’s potato chip. As I mentioned, the orange is cheese, and very salty Cheese Whiz cheese at that. As for the purple mashed potatoes, they’re a little bit different than yams or American potatoes. Closer to the former, and delicious, but still somewhat jarring. The beef calbi underneath the potatoes, however, is best part. On top of being cooked well, they’re covered in this sweet and tangy sauce, which adds a second layer of flavor to the already juicy and tender beef.

Overall, there’s not much in taste except the cheese to dislike about this snack. My biggest complaint, however, is the portion size compared to the price. At Tokyo Disney Resort’s normal price ranges, this snack feels a bit overpriced. If you want to give it a try, the Beef & Mashed Purple Potatoes Cone is available at Tokyo Disneyland’s The Gazebo through October 31st.
