It’s time for Disney Halloween at Tokyo Disney Resort! And one of my favorite parts of any Tokyo Disney Resort event is the array of snacks and food items available! In this series of reviews, I’ll be detailing every single new snack and counter-service item. A perennial favorite with Guests here is the Tipo Torta. I’m not entirely sure where the idea for this came from (based on a few Google searches), but it’s essentially a big stick of hard bread with filling, kind of like a churro, but not chewy. And guests (quite literally) eat them up here! So, let’s look at the special Halloween flavor this year – purple sweet potato.
Purple Sweet Potato Tipo Torta – ¥400 ($3.74)
Purple Sweet Potato has temporarily evicted the Chocolate Tipo Torta, which is unfortunately my favorite. This is a classic autumn ingredient here in Japan, and it manifests in all sorts of snacks and drinks. It tastes a lot like yams, but with a slightly different sweetness. Honestly, it’s a bit difficult to describe. But it’s good!
I’m loving the presentation here. It’s nice and solid, and doesn’t crumble easily in your hand, even once you bite in to it. Plus, the wrapper is the same adorable one used in the Maple Pumpkin Churro! And as for taste, it’s really sweet in a savory way, as one would expect. This was probably my favorite purple sweet potato snack that I ate (far surpassing the strange Beef & Purple Potato Cone), and I think the only flaw is how dry it is. Unfortunately, that tends to be a given with Tipo Tortas, however. But this snack is absolutely delicious, the filling in the center is nice and warm, and it doesn’t crumble and fall apart even as you bite in to it! I really think this will be perfect for when the weather cools down, to help get in to the autumn spirit!
The Purple Sweet Potato Tipo Torta has my recommendation, and is available at Tokyo Disneyland’s Village Pastry, and Tokyo DisneySea’s Tropic Al’s through October 31st!
