REVIEW: Sparkling Mixed Berry Tapioca Drink is an Overly Sweet Holiday Treat for Tokyo Disneyland’s “Disney Christmas 2019”

Ho ho ho! Merry Disney Christmas, everyone! It’s the holiday season at Tokyo Disney Resort, and that means a new slate of food to devour and review for you all! So, let’s take a closer look at the tasty treats to celebrate the season this year!

As we’ve seen over the past few months, tapioca has been the huge trend here in Japan! There was the massive Sparkling Mango & Citrus Tapioca Tea over the summer, and the Salty Lychee cocktail also for the holidays, among many others. And as a Disney fan with a huge sweet tooth, I live for sweet berry flavors. Unfortunately, this one was a bit to sweet even for my tastes. So, let’s give the Sparkling Mixed Berry Tapioca Drink a try for ourselves.

Sparkling Tapioca Drink (Mixed Berries) – Â¥450 ($4.13)

$4.13 is actually a pretty generous price for how much tapioca milk tea tends to go for. You can even pick it up with a pretty decent pizza slice for your lunch!

The drink comes in this adorable Disney Christmas cup, which features Mickey and Minnie in their featured retro designs for this year’s holiday! The mixed berry syrup colors the drink red, with the rest being made with the relatively light-tasting Kirin Lemon soda. Unfortunately, that’s where the flavor issue comes in. This drink is way too sweet, even by American palates. There’s lots of fruity flavors clashing together in this, almost like a drinkable bag of Fruit Gushers. The tapioca and fruit chunks probably don’t help too much with that either. And it doesn’t mix well, no matter how you try. The bottom tends to remain rather syrupy thanks to strawberry stuff. You really need to take breaks drinking this or the sweetness will overwhelm you.

Overall, be careful with this drink. One or two of these might send your blood sugar skyrocketing, and you’ll be immune to sweet tastes for a little bit. If you want to try the Sparkling Mixed Berry Tapioca Drink for yourself, you can find it at Captain Hook’s Galley in Fantasyland through December 25th.
