Whenever candlelights flicker, where the air is deathly still… that is the time to take down the holiday decorations and prepare for an extensive refurbishment at The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.

On Tuesday, the attraction closed for a refurbishment that’s expected to last until spring 2020.

During this time, the ride will have its seasonal Haunted Mansion Holiday theme removed, as well have new paint and trim added around the attraction’s exterior, plus enhanced lighting and mechanical work (including “lighted steel panels“) within the attraction itself. No changes are expected to be made to the ride’s layout.

Of course, the 999 happy haunts didn’t leave guests completely empty-handed. Instead, they brought in some ghosts from the past. The construction wall at the attraction’s entrance has been populated with concept art from the attraction’s development.

Furthermore, there’s even a replica of the sign that was posted outside the attraction before it opened to the public! It’s no replacement for riding the Disneyland icon, but for Disney Parks fans, these construction walls are pretty darn entertaining on their own.

The ride joins Snow White’s Scary Adventures and King Arthur Carrousel in having lengthy refurbishments as the park prepares for its 65th anniversary by refurbishing and enhancing classic attractions.
