The first tiles for EPCOT’s reimagined entrance fountain were laid into place today. The new fountain, which will be an homage to the park’s original fountain, is part of the park’s ongoing entrance experience overhaul.

From above, the first section of tile can be seen already in place, with more being placed around it.

A closer look reveals the unique pattern that will adorn the fountain when it is completed. Each segment features an indent, giving the flowing water the effect of added texture as it flows over the top.

The scalloped pattern mirrors the design revealed in the early concept art for the fountain.

From the other side, we can see new pavement is also going in around the base of the fountain’s walkway.

Several workers were on site this morning with more materials being unloaded, so we expect to start seeing some rapid progress on this after a few months of little to no changes at the site.

  1. This could be the start of a pattern, but if you look this is them testing different textures and size tiling. You can see it is walled in to contain water up to the box that evens the flow at the center of the fountain.
