Nostalgia is a huge driver of Disney Parks merchandise worldwide right now. So much so that this winter’s special event at Tokyo Disneyland celebrates past entertainment at Tokyo Disney Resort. Very Very Minnie is on January 10 – March 19, and there’s tons of food to explore. So let’s go!
Sweetheart Cafe is a staple of Tokyo Disneyland. From breakfast breads to seasonal sandwiches, there’s something for everyone at this cozy corner cafe. Since we love souvenir lunch cases, we decided to stop by and partake in this season’s special sandwich set. While this one is certainly an improvement over the past two we’ve seen here, it’s still nothing remarkable. The case, however, makes it worth your while!
Special Set – ¥1070 ($9.81)
As always, the Sweetheart Cafe special set includes the entree, a jelly (grape in this case), and a soft drink. We were absolutely in love with the food wrapper as well, and Tom decided to hold on to that one. We previously talked about the grape jelly in our Halloween set review, so let’s skip straight to the sandwich.
If you’re wondering what those red sprinkles are, so were we. The sandwich features tuna salad, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and mayo with croutons. The bun is red to match the theme of Very Very Minnie, which is a cute touch.
As for the taste? Well, don’t expect any fireworks here. It’s a basic tuna salad sandwich, really. You can get the same kind of thing at Subway for cheaper, and that would be a foot long! You taste tuna salad, cheese, and mayo. It’s good, don’t get me wrong. And it’s certainly the best sandwich we’ve reviewed so far. But for $9, you can probably do better at this park.
Very Very Minnie Souvenir Lunch Case – +¥1100 ($10.08)
The lunch case features the polka dots aesthetic (including a Minnie skirt-esque lining on top) and slightly different designs on both sides. One side is canvas, while the other has a little plastic pocket for smaller items. This is probably one of the more adorable lunch cases we’ve seen, and that includes the Christmas one! There’s definitely times when the promise of a cute lunch case can sweeten up an otherwise unremarkable meal, and Sweetheart Cafe’s Very Very Minnie special set definitely fits there.
All in all, you won’t be disappointed with this sandwich. But you won’t be wowed by it either, unfortunately. You can find this set at Tokyo Disneyland’s Sweetheart Cafe through March 19th. But there’s better things you could have for comparable cost.
