Only one week ago, one of the most drastic changes during the intense overhaul of EPCOT took place – the closure of the entire Future World central area. This change included the loss of Pin Central. Prior to that, parts of Innoventions West had already been torn down, and MouseGear had relocated to allow for the gutting of its former location in Innoventions East. We have photos and videos covering its new location – click here to view them. We have some fascinating before and after images, starting with today’s current view of the center of Future World, contrasted with photos from yesterday:
As you can see, most of the Pin Central tarp canopy is gone, with just the largest supports still up and the occasional slack wire still hanging from the infrastructure.
Here’s a look at what still remained yesterday, as well as a closer look at Innoventions West, and MouseGear:
MouseGear, identified by it’s signature gears on the exterior, has had most of its interior removed and little more than a skeleton of the Innoventions East building remains.
Innoventions West, on the other hand, has seen half of its structure razed to the ground and the land has essentially become an empty lot used for little more than storage of heavy machinery at this point.
In addition to the Innoventions West building and the internals of MouseGear being torn apart, Pin Central is beginning to get the same treatment. All of the signature shades have been removed, and destructive work is now beginning on the structure.
Several large construction dumpsters are filled to the brim with pieces and parts of these iconic shops and structures.
For better or worse, a few signs of MouseGear still appear inside the building, such as the gears seen above. However, these will probably be removed soon, or at best be exposed to the elements and potentially damaged.
While EPCOT is currently hosting the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, and will soon be home to the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, the heart of the park is mostly a construction zone with little resemblance to a functioning theme park.
We’re certainly looking forward to the finished product, and we’d love to know your thoughts about EPCOT’s multi-year transformation. Let us know what you think in the comments!
I await all your posts on EPCOTS construction. Such a massive undertaking whilst keeping the Park open to visitors. It’s fantastic to see the effort being applied to return EPCOT to if glory.
