Friends forever, glad we’re all here together! That’s right, it’s Pixar Playtime one last time at Tokyo DisneySea! And that means not just special food, but food themed to beloved Pixar franchises! Last year, Mamma Biscotti’s Bakery hit a home run with the spectacular Toy Story set, and they’ve fortunately brought it back this year. Plus, the lunch case is adorable. Without further ado, let’s sail together to Mediterranean Harbor and experience it for ourselves!
Toy Story Set – ¥1180 ($10.74)
One of those weird Japan things you never really get used to is how food almost always looks 95% like the plastic displays. But the set is a pretty great combination if you ask me. Anything with the Little Green Men mochi is a huge plus in my book! Let’s go through all three of these items with our thoughts.
The main course here is probably the sausage pastry. Featuring this awesome Slinky Dog-themed wrapper, it’s essentially a sausage with a croissant wrapped around it. The outside is a bit dry and extremely flaky, so you’ll want a few napkins for this one. It’s not “stale” dry, though. The sausage inside is actually pretty good, with a very smoky taste to it. I honestly wish there’d been more, because I genuinely enjoyed this one!
The marshmallow bread is a bit more complex of a beast. The idea (if you can’t see it) is that it looks like Bo Peep’s three sheep. Cute, isn’t it? And under it is some orange marmalade and delicious chocolate! All three of these come together to create this sweet-fruity combination that absolutely holds its own. I love when sweet chocolate and citrusy orange are mixed together, because the flavor is so distinct and, frankly, underused. Combine that with lightly toasted and gooey marshmallows and you have what I think is the best bread at Mamma Biscotti’s right now! I would absolutely get this on its own (and I have), and I think it’s a fitting part of this sweet set.
Ah, the famous Little Green Men mochi. These are the signature snack of Tokyo DisneySea in my opinion, and I think a trip to Tokyo Disney Resort is incomplete without these little guys. Each mochi is filled with one of three flavors – custard, chocolate, and strawberry (my favorite). Last year, a special lemon version was available for Pixar Playtime, but unfortunately didn’t return this year.
The flavors pop as always, the mochi are the perfect amount of sticky, and they’re just so darn cute! The custard flavor is sweet (although arguably the most boring), and best serves as a palate cleanser if you can identify its taste. The chocolate is closer to dark than milk, and definitely earns my second-place spot. But by far and away, the fruity, authentic strawberry flavor is (and always has been) my favorite of them all! I always try to save it for last, but guessing which one is strawberry is a bit difficult.
Special Lunch Case – +¥1100 ($10.00)
Featuring almost every Pixar franchise except WALL-E, The Good Dinosaur, and A Bug’s Life, this adorable lunch case has something for almost everyone! Plus the unique Pixar Playtime character designs really shine with the geometric style. It’s difficult to choose which of this season’s two lunch cases I prefer, but I think this one might be my favorite!
Plus the interior features multicolored stars. Seriously, I think this lunch case is spectacularly done.
Overall, you really can’t go wrong here. Three delicious pastry offerings that each stand strong on their own come together to create an excellent value! Sadly, only the Little Green Men mochi will stick around after March 19th, so that means you need to stroll down to Mamma Biscotti’s Bakery at Tokyo DisneySea before then and get the Toy Story set! We’re pretty sure you won’t regret it!
