New “Female-Centric” Star Wars Series Reportedly in Development for Disney+

It’s been a big week for Star Wars, especially on Disney+, with the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars racing to an epic finish, and even news of a third season of The Mandalorian already in pre-production. Now, Variety has broken more news from the Star Wars universe, with a new, unnamed, “female-centric” series coming to the streaming service.

The new series will be headed by Leslye Headland, the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the critically-acclaimed Netflix series “Russian Doll.”

No exact details on the plot are known yet, but according to Variety, sources say it will be a female-centric series that takes place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects. Headland is said to be attached to write and serve as showrunner on the series, with the show currently staffing. (Many fans, including myself, are antsy at the thought of this potentially being the rumored Doctor Aphra project or an Ahsoka stand-alone series, but considering that this takes place “in a different part of the Star Wars timeline”, I’m more inclined to say it could be the former.)

Disney+ is proving to be the ultimate home for new Star Wars content, with two other series already in the works, including an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor and a Cassian Andor (Rogue One) prequel series starring Diego Luna, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

      • really? so when he trained with yoda and got his ass handed to him at the end of the movie then actually trained for years before Return of the Jedi is the same as NO TRAINING. Luke was NOT good at everything. rey was better at fixing the falcon better than Han and Chewy and defeated multiple trained force users with no training. 1, you don’t know what a mary sue is apparently and 2. you clearly didn’t watch or pay attention to the original trilogy. GTFO… People don’t “cry” about it because Luke had multiple failures unlike rey, the mary sue, who never failed, was liked by everyone and never grew as a character.

      • its clear you are a schill but to market and make sure everyone knows its a “female led” show before it was even written means its gender politics is more important than the story… but people like you seem to find it easy to ignore that… tell me how many successful films market as “female led” or “male led”?

    • I think its funny how people like you say others are “threatened” while ignoring what people actually say including women… this move by lucas film made it clear they are putting gender politics before even writing the story, since it wasn’t written yet, but that conveniently gets glossed over… you do know saying things like this doesn’t get you laid. women actually look down on you for it.

  1. I’m so excited about this one! Leslye Headland is such an incredible writer (her plays are amazing!), so I can’t wait to see what she does with the Star Wars universe.

    • lol incredible writer? shes a one note writer… everything she has done has the same theme, that isn’t even mentioning her ripping off Ground Hogs Day…
