Walt Disney World Reiterates “No Reopening Date” Established Yet During Latest Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force Meeting
The Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force met once again early today to discuss any additional developments on reopening plans given the start of Phase 1 reopenings across the state, with various restaurants and retail locations opening up under strict new guidelines and parameters.
You can view the full meeting below, but we’ve linked to the start of the conversation with Thomas Mazloum, Vice President of Walt Disney World Resort & Transportation:
When it came time to discuss the Theme Park sector, Chuck Whittall, President of Unicorp, asked Thomas Mazloum about any potential reopening dates for Walt Disney World. Mazloum responded:
“We do not have any opening date yet. Some of you may know we––at this point, we’re taking bookings that were in June, that doesn’t mean that we’re opening in June. At this time, I just want to make it clear that we do not have any plans to share about Walt Disney World or, for that matter, any of our other parks at this point. Clearly, regulatory guidance is an important element of this in each area and country where we work, and at this point, I just want to be clear that we simply don’t have any plans to share about Walt Disney World yet.”
In an effort to dispel rumors of a potential 2021 reopening date, Whittall posed a more specific question on reopening time frames:
“It’s been written that you guys may wait until January 1. We would hope that wouldn’t be the case––I think it’d be harmful for a lot of Central Florida businesses. Do you think it’ll be in the upcoming near future versus longer future?”
Mazloum responded, “At this point, we simply have closed until further notice and I’m not in a position right now to share anything publicly about Walt Disney World.”
At this time, Walt Disney World Resort, including Disney Springs, remains closed until further notice.
