Paint crews are in high gear preparing Walt Disney World Resort entrance gateways for the upcoming 50th Anniversary celebration. In addition to the makeover happening at the Magic Kingdom Toll Plaza, entrance signs throughout the property are also getting new paint schemes. Work continues on the Western Way entrance sign, with new paint details added today.
As we approach the Western Way entrance, the subtle changes from yesterday are not as obvious.
A closer look reveals that dark gray paint has been applied over primer on the right arch support column.
The background behind Mickey Mouse had already been painted blue. Workers removed the clear plastic tarp that had been covering Mickey. The background was previously a light purple, like what remains behind Minnie Mouse.
One small square of blue paint has been added to the purple “Welcome to Walt Disney World Resort” sign to Mickey’s right.
Approximately half of the previously brick red columns on the Minnie side of the sign have been primed. The Donald Duck sign has a small amount of primer at the base of one column.
A close look at the Walt Disney World logo reveals white pinstripes around some letters, starting with the ‘y’ in ‘Disney.’
The Western Way entrance sign is one of five to be refurbished. The others are:
- World Drive
- World Center Drive
- Osceola Parkway
- Hotel Plaza Boulevard (bookend signs, no archway)
