Work continues on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – the family-friendly “storytelling coaster” featuring a groundbreaking ride system with vehicles that rotate 360 degrees and can even do a reverse launch! Disney has released a video of ride system testing off-site:

The Omnicoaster is a first- of-its-kind programmable roller coaster ride system, where guests can be rotated along the ride track in any direction while traveling at high speeds. The Omnicoaster name builds upon the tradition of the Omnimover ride system in which Walt Disney Imagineers are able to turn guests in any direction and focus their attention on a specific scene or element.

Above, we see Imagineers inspecting the ride vehicles where they’re currently staged on property inside the WDI warehouse. And no, those aren’t accidental scuffs you’re seeing—each ride vehicle has unique impact marks to show just how far they’ve come across the galaxy to transport guests. Lap restraints will keep guests snugly in place as they launch through space and into the show building.

Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed a first look inside the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster at the Universe of Energy pavilion in EPCOT earlier today during an IAAPA presentation—you can check it out here!

Currently, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set for a 2021 opening date at EPCOT. Are you looking forward to experiencing this new thrill ride inside World Discovery? Let us know in the comments below!

    • Similar, but the Disney vehicle appears to be able to turn more fluidly during fast forward movement – it will be interesting to compare the ride experience in due course!

  1. to the person whose face will be hit by my projectile vomit as the GOG Cosmic rewind ride vehicles are rotating whilst cruising at G force speeds. SORRY but its really Chapeks fault

  2. Very stoked to ride this, and I haven’t even seen the movie nor it’s sequel yet. Love the addition of some higher intensity rides into the parks. Will be monitoring opening date announcements to see if I need to push back my next trip to WDW, currently set for late Aug 2021…

  3. I can barely take a drink at disney without some random cast member bothering me to put my mask on but these guys can go on a roller-coaster right next to each other with no mask? Lol
