Soon, EPCOT’s central hub will be known as the World Celebration neighborhood, but for now it is a large construction site. We’re checking in on Innoventions East’s ongoing refurbishment and Innoventions West’s demolition to see what progress has been made.
Work continues on the old Innoventions East building and Mouse Gear. Construction workers were working on the front of the Mouse Gear, which is being refurbished.
While support structures are in place inside Innoventions East, there are not many major updates to the building yet.
There is a green structure visible in the center.
Workers in a high reach have been present during our last couple visits, apparently doing something on the ceiling.
Though only part of the roof overhang has been removed, more will come down eventually. It is already looking pretty worn from the nearby work.
As we noted a week ago, the former Art of Disney building at Innoventions West has been completely gutted.
One window remains in place to the left.
Portions of the roof have been removed.
We’ve seen quick work on this portion of Innoventions West, with the removal of walls and the roof overhang.
A remnant of the wall paneling remains around one support pillar.
This metal structure is for lighting Spaceship Earth, as the former lighting unit at the top of Innoventions West is no longer in use.
We can also see through this building to where some wall paneling remains on the other side.
Once Innoventions West is completely demolished, construction on the Journey of Water Moana attraction will begin.
More roofing has been removed from edge of this section.
From this angle, we can see how most of the building is now just bare bones.
Though it’s hard to know how plans have changed due to COVID-19, above is the original concept art for World Celebration, with Journey of Water on the right and the refurbished Innoventions East building on the left.
