Walt Disney World Issues Update for New Year’s Eve; Pre-Recorded Fireworks Will Be Available to Stream on In-Room Televisions

Walt Disney World has issued a finalized update for New Year’s Eve activities, plus park hours as we ring in the New Year. As previously issued, all parks and Disney Springs will close prior to midnight to allow for proper adherence to new COVID-19 guidelines, with no announced countdowns or festivities as has traditionally taken place in years prior.

All four Walt Disney World Theme Parks as well as Disney Springs are decorated for the season and feature extended operating hours. On New Year’s Eve, however, these locations will close prior to midnight as we continue to follow health and safety measures put in place during our phased reopening to help foster physical distancing.

  • Magic Kingdom: 8:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • EPCOT: 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 9:00 am – 9:00 pm
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: 7:00 am – 8:00 pm

  1. No fireworks for NYE, but here we have a special basket you can buy instead. Of course everyone staying knew that there wasn’t going to be fireworks when they booked. Sure many were hoping that Disney would have returned to some sort of fireworks by now. In room prerecorded fireworks just isn’t the same.

  2. This was the responsible way to go. There is just no feasible way to keep people six feet apart during such a celebration (I’m very curious to see how Now York City’s annual celebration will or will not play out this year).

I like that they will allow resort guests to stream past fireworks on their TVs. For the rest of us, there is YouTube. And, honestly, there are some fantastic videos out there (it doesn’t compare with being there to see them live, and I get that, but…it’s better than nothing). Some of those videos may even surpass whatever version Disney streams to hotel rooms.

This has been a strange and unpleasant year. Disney is doing the best they can under the circumstances, and doing everything they can for Walt Disney World to not be known as a “superspreader” site. So far, they have won this battle. But a New Year’s Eve celebration just does not work with social distancing.

I have experienced many an amazing New Year’s Eve at Disney parks, and while they are amazing experiences, “social distancing” just isn’t gonna happen, even at reduced capacity, as everyone jostles for the best views.

It’s not an ideal situation, by any means, but…I get it, under the circumstances.

    • I dont see why there cant be fireworks in the sky. We are OUTSIDE, WITH MASKS- you dont need to be 6 feet apart if everyone is outside in masks. THATS THE POINT OF MASKS. ughhh
