More Details Released on “Year of Magical Surprises” Coming to Shanghai Disney Resort Next Month, Including New Nighttime Spectacular, In-App Surprises, and More

We already learned about some of the new experiences coming to Shanghai Disney Resort beginning April 8th to celebrate the resort’s 5th anniversary, but we now know even more details thanks to Disney Magical Kingdom Blog.

In honor of the “Year of Magical Surprises”, the Shanghai Disney Resort app will debut a new look featuring the resort’s 5th birthday logo. Users of the app will also be able to enter a digital lottery with the “Tap for a Magical Surprise” feature. Winners will get special prizes including digital autographs, dining and merchandise vouchers, priority access to attractions, and reserved entertainment viewing.

A “Surprise Squad” of Cast Members will appear at different times and locations throughout Shanghai Disneyland to give guests birthday surprises, including souvenirs and invitations to the Disney “Surprise!” Show.

The Disney “Surprise!” Show will be performed four times per day on the Pepsi E-stage in Tomorrowland. Guests at this show will have the opportunity to spin the “Disney Surprise Wheel” and win prizes such as a 37-inch StellaLou plush, a dining experience at the Royal Banquet Hall, hotel stays, park tickets, Annual Passes, and more! A grand prize, the “Magical Star of the Day”, will also be presented to one guest. This grand prize will include a “Golden Key” that allows the guest and their party (up to four) to enjoy a series of offerings at Mickey’s Magical Star Lounge in Shanghai Disneyland’s Club 33.

Shanghai Disneyland will debut ILLUMINATE! This brand-new nighttime spectacular features brand-new content and cutting-edge technology.

Annual Passholders who will miss “Ignite the Dream, A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light” can pick up a commemorative sticker at Tomorrowland’s Guest Relations Station through April 7, 2021.

A new “Disney Surprise Cake Float” will lead the Mickey’s Storybook Express parade and the park will be decorated, including birthday decorations lining Mickey Avenue. Disneytown and the resort’s two hotels will also receive decorations. A new soundtrack featuring new compositions and different takes on classic Disney songs will also debut.

In addition to Mickey, Minnie, and all their friends, rare Disney characters will also be making appearances throughout the year. Mickey and Minnie’s new looks will be ivory and champagne gold with hidden 5-shaped details. Cast Members will also get a small costume update, with new nametags featuring the 5th birthday logo.

The “Year of Magical Surprises” officially begins April 8, 2021.

That’s nice for Shanghai Disneyland. I hope their new fireworks show is unique to their park unlike Ignite the Dream where they copy/pasted the fireworks at Disneyland Paris for Paris’s 25th anniversary even though I actually like both shows.

I hope when fireworks come back to the US parks, it won’t be clones of other shows.
