PHOTOS: An Osprey is Building a Nest on TRON Lightcycle Run’s Canopy at the Magic Kingdom

If we learned one thing from our osprey saga from Universal’s VelciCoaster, we know that these birds tend to hang around rollercoaster construction sites. An osprey has nested on the tracks of that attraction, and now they’re trying to do the same on the canopy framework of TRON Lightcycle / Run at the Magic Kingdom.

An osprey seen mid-flight is bringing twigs and branches as an attempt to nest on top of Magic Kingdom’s newest coaster.

We think this osprey has claimed the canopy as her home now. She’s getting comfortable with branches and twigs and is slowly moving in.

This comes as no surprise since the apparent tallest part of the attraction’s canopy has been installed. Ospreys tend to nest high above the ground.

In similar fashion to the VelociCoaster, this osprey prefers to perch on the highest point of the TRON Lightcycle / Run canopy.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the osprey is a protected species under the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It was removed from Florida’s Endangered and Threatened Species list in 2018. As it seems that the osprey is just beginning its nest, we are unsure of if there are eggs there are not. If eggs are to be laid, Disney would likely not be able to move the nest or would need a permit to do so thanks to its protected species status.
