*NEW* Crawfish Étouffée with Andouille Sausage and Dirty Rice – $7.25
This dish reminded us that looks can be deceiving. The thickness of the dish was kind of unappetizing. We literally stood it on its side for minutes on end and it didn’t move. That being said, it was pretty good.
The crawfish and shrimp (which wasn’t listed on the menu) were both really well-cooked, the dish full of spice, and the little sausage we had was full of flavor. A little more sausage and this would’ve been a perfect small plate. As it stands, don’t let the thickness turn you off.
Cajun-style Roasted Oysters – $7.50
The oysters, which we were told were from the Gulf of Mexico, were well-seasoned, but tasted a little old. They were pretty mediocre. Frankly, there are better options here
House-made Boudin Two Ways with Spicy Mustard – $5.50
The boudin was presented, as the menu item suggests, in two ways: a fried ball and as a sausage.
The boudin was really good but the portion was small. Most of us felt that the fried ball piece was the better of the two, but one of our team members preferred the sausage. It’s flavorful and the mustard adds a nice boldness.
Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream – $4.75
The cake got mixed reviews from our crew. It tastes like a coffee cake, but better than the cake with the berry compote from Pineapple Promenade. It’s very sweet, almost too sweet, so make sure you share. The cake is dry, but the sauce makes up for it.
Pecan Praline – $4.25
The pecan praline tasted like edible sand. It’s sweet but just sort of crumbles in your mouth. We definitely couldn’t eat one of these alone.
*NEW* Bayou Cocktail: Bayou Spiced Rum ($18/bottle), Coconut Rum, Fruit Punch and Minute Maid® Orange Juice – $11.00
This was a basic concoction, but we really enjoyed it. It was nicely balanced between both rums, fruit juice and the orange juice. Tropical and delicious, it tasted like Mardi Gras to us.
As far as premixed cocktails are concerned, this is one of the better options at the festival. Grab one of these, sit back and let the good times roll!
*NEW* 81Bay Brewing Co. Orange Coriander Wheat Ale, Tampa, FL (5.8% ABV) – $4.50 / $8.50
81Bay Brewing Co. describes their beer as a “wheat ale with coriander and orange peel.”
*NEW* Wicked Weed Brewing Day Light American Light Ale, Asheville, NC (4.1% ABV) – $4.50 / $8.50
Untappd describes this beer as an “American light ale with 105 calories.”
Parish Brewing Co. Ghost in the Machine Double IPA, Broussard, LA (8.5% ABV) – $4.50 / $8.50
From Parish Brewing Co.: “Welcome to the future. Our collective human consciousness, or Ghost in the Machine, has gained a tolerance for hops beyond what mankind has ever known before. This double India Pale Ale is the necessary outcome. Brewed with obscene quantities of hand-selected Citra hops from our favorite farm in Yakima Valley, WA. Expect pungent grapefruit aromas and flavors, tropical fruit, and less harsh bitterness than most IIPAs.”
