PHOTO REPORT: Magic Kingdom & Disney Springs 5/5/21 (Casey Jr. Refurbishment Continues, “Moana” Dooney & Bourke Collection Arrives, New Open Edition MagicBands, and More)
Hello from a very hot but beautiful day here at Walt Disney World! We started our day at the Magic Kingdom to check in on the construction project there, and we found some fun things to show you while we were at it. Let’s get started!
Starting at the Transportation and Ticket Center, we found two more decorative gates removed, making a total of four gone now.
We also saw that additional vertical supports had been painted blue near where the gates were removed.
Once we were inside the park, we found that significant progress had been made on the refurbishment of the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station. First, the engine had it’s gold roof accents repainted.
The iconic face of the engine was also refurbished and mounted onto the front of the train once more.
The planters which have surrounded the engine where pulled back to cover the center train car as well as it has it’s trim repainted.
One side has been painted bronze. The previously painted all and vignette were taped off to protect them during this process.
The other side was painted yellow, perhaps as a primer for the bronze.
Nearby at the construction site for TRON Lightcycle / Run, there was also painting underway. This worker was painting the weld points on the illuminated canopy to match the rest of the metal.
We found two more Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom medallions had been removed today, both out of brickwork. The first was the last remaining medallion of three outside of Sir Mickey’s, and the second was near The Diamond Horseshoe.
The blue roof of Sir Mickey’s is finally being repainted in Fantasyland behind Cinderella Castle.
The roof to the far right and two turrets at the front are what has been finished so far, in addition to the top-most turret that was repainted several weeks ago.
Some cracked concrete is being replaced in front of Sleepy Hollow Refreshments. Unfortunately the work was not finished before the day began today, but we suspect it will be finished soon.
On the Jungle Cruise, the elephant animatronics were not only moving today but their audio track was matched properly to the passing of the boats. It appears that this effect has been fixed.
With construction updates finished, we turned our attention to merchandise, and found some interesting things. The Star Tours Attraction Series Wishables that were released yesterday as part of the May the 4th celebrations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios were available at the Magic Kingdom today. Only the blind bag was available at The Emporium, which retails for $9.99.
We found three new open edition pin sets today at The Emporium. The “How I Think I Sing” meme set retails for $15.99, and the “Bride Squad” and the “Not Today, Villains” sets both retail for $24.99 each.
We found a new Minnie Mouse red, black, and gold card holder at The Emporium, which retails for $14.99.
Periodically we see items get redesigned and rereleased in the parks, which is the case with this hat. We found this Monsters University hat at Fantasy Faire for $$27.99.
At Uptown Jewelers, we found a new Moana MagicBand by Dooney & Bourke to match their newest handbag release. For more pictures and information, check out our article here.
While we were at Uptown Jewelers, we found the matching wallet to the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway mini backpack by Loungefly. For more pictures and information on both pieces, check out our article here.
We may have been done at the Magic Kingdom, but we weren’t done for the day! Next, we headed to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to check in on things there.
While we were there we found this unique lidded bao bun mug at The Boutiki which retails for $22.99.
We then headed over to Disney Springs, where we found lots of new merchandise at World of Disney, starting with this “Indiana Jones” hip bag, which retails for $34.99.
Next up was this set of mugs featuring a classic character and name on one side and the four Walt Disney World park icons on the other.
Each of these mugs retails for $14.99.
We found a fun addition to the Rainbow Disney Collection with this new ear hat featuring a classic Mickey Mouse emblem for $19.99.
We also found an interesting sale on select assorted Pez, regularly $4.49.
Over at Ever After Jewelry Co, we found the new handbag collection from Dooney & Bourke featuring Moana. For more pictures and information, check out our article here.
