REVIEW: NEW Double Crunch Fried Chicken Sandwich Saves the Day at Captain America Diner in Universal’s Islands of Adventure

He’s the star-spangled man with a plan, and a new menu item! Captain America Diner at Marvel Super Hero Island is now offering a double crunch chicken sandwich, and we stopped by for lunch at Universal’s Islands of Adventure to try it out.

Double Crunch Chicken Sandwich Platter – $12.99

The platter comes with fries, and you can upgrade to a combo with your choice of chocolate, vanilla, or swirled shake for $16.49.

They weren’t kidding when they said “double crunch.” The breading is very crispy and quite delicious. The chicken wasn’t the juiciest we’ve had, but it wasn’t dry, either.

The fries are lightly seasoned, and you can upgrade to onion rings for a small additional cost.

The sandwich is topped with apple butter mayonnaise and jalapeño relish, which added a sweet and spicy kick. The jalapeños give a lot of flavor without much heat. Even though these toppings are applied to the bun, the bread is soft and didn’t get soggy.

Pepperjack cheese, lettuce, and tomato round out flavor palette.

Overall, it’s a step up from the usual here. It’s certainly better than the rest of the menu, but it may not be a specific reason to eat at Captain America Diner. You won’t be disappointed with this option at least.

Captain America Diner has always been a tamer choice around the park, traditionally offering no more excitement than bacon on a cheeseburger. It’s nice to see some new choices added to the quick-service location.

Will you stop in to try the double crunch chicken sandwich? Let us know in the comments!
