As Disney moves retail primarily to shopDisney, classic Disney Stores around the world have been closing. Sadly, this now includes the original Disney Store location in Glendale, California. The store’s website now states it will be closed by July 14th, 2021.
The first Disney Store opened in the Glendale Galleria mall on March 28, 1987. Above is a photo of the store from its Grand Opening, attended by hundreds of people.
The Glendale store, like most Disney Stores, was modernized over the years. Pictured above is its current appearance. Guests have loved to visit Disney Stores for decades to get a little Disney magic (My family even bought our first Walt Disney World tickets from our local Disney Store).
The final days of the original Disney Store herald the end of an era. While some Target locations now feature a “Disney Store,” they don’t offer the same experience. For now, you can find a Disney Store near you with the Store Locator.

We found out this past Thursday quite suddenly that my store in TX was closing its doors along with the amazing Glendale store. My castmembers and I are devastated.
