Though no fireworks show has been announced for Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary later this year, there have been rumors about a new nighttime spectacular. The rumored show is known as “Project Nugget” in permits for construction at the fireworks launch site. Last month, Disney also posted a job for a fireworks and special effects designer. Today, we noticed new lights added to some of the trees in the hub of Magic Kingdom, which may indicate plans are moving forward.

We first noticed the new lights in this tree near Casey’s Corner.

Many trees in front of Cinderella Castle have lights that are incorporated into the fireworks and projection shows. That being said, this tree did not previously have lights.

They can be seen running up the tree trunk into the branches.

A sort of shrink wrap tape is holding the string lights in place, whereas lights on other trees are held in place with brown tape.

The lights spread all the way up through the top of the tree.

The new lights can be found on multiple trees in this area at the end of Main Street, U.S.A.

Here are some of the old lights, on trees closer to Cinderella Castle, for comparison.

On these, the conduit is screwed into the tree trunk.

  1. I’m so excited the lights are going in I can’t wait to see what they come up with for the 50th parade it’s exciting

  2. The twinkle lights will be great for shows! I’m surprised they put them in these crepe myrtles though! The get a winterized pruning each year so the lights will be more visible in early spring!
