Disney Cutting Ties With Scarlett Johansson, “Tower of Terror” Film Canceled

Following Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow‘s release on Disney+, Disney is cutting all ties with the actress and canceling projects involving her.

According to Giant Freakin Robot, this includes the previously announced Tower of Terror film. Johansson was set to produce and star in the movie.

This would not have been the first attempt at a Tower of Terror film adaptation. As part of The Wonderful World of Disney, a TV movie called “Tower of Terror” starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst aired in 1997. Last December, screenwriter John August shared details and illustrations from his pitch for a new film that he presented in 2015. No details about Johansson’s version of the film had been made available.

How do you feel about the cancelation of the Tower of Terror film? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I’m glad because I believe that if they had made the movie they would have taken away the twilight zone part of the ride and now they will have to keep it.

  2. Bully, nasty, mean, arrogant.Just a few words to describe Disney reaction to Ms.Johansson.Makes me want to tear up annual passes of self and family and just go to other theme parks and cancel Disney Plus!

  3. Would’ve loved to see another tower of terror film specially since the attraction is such an icon, what a shame…

  4. Pretty childish response by Disney. Alan Horn has got to go, IMO.

Way to ruin a relationship with a great actress that gave you a decade of content.

  5. It’s a shame that this is all about $$$. Disney should go the right thing and pay her what she’s owed and move forward with worthwhile projects. A good ToT storyline & film will gain them back any money they would pay out to settle this issue. Again, the fans suffer by not getting good stories.

  6. I’m really sad! Tower of Terror is one of my favs and I would have loved to have a good movie about it!

  7. Wow. My jaw literally dropped like the ride when I read this headline. However, we knew this was coming though. As soon as she sued them, it was over for her. You don’t sue the Mouse and get away with it. Such a disappointment because I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. It’s even a shame the 1997 version is not on Disney+. “Under Wraps” (1997) also needs to be added to Disney+. Speaking of which, the remake of that film is coming out this October!

  8. Walt Disney is turning in his grave watching his company’s sophomoric attempts to deny and vilify Scarlett. Iger would have never positioned Disney in such unflattering light

  9. I feel like Disney executives have secretly shorted the company’s stock and are doing their best to run the company into the ground.

  10. Gen Z’s cancel culture, coming soon to a Disney near you. Gen Z needs to find something better to do…

  11. Reason #77,087,021 why DisneyCo sucks. I hope Scarlett Johansson goes on to have a fulfilling and lucrative career with other companies, and I hope this is the first of an ever-escalating avalanche of Disney failures. Y’all too big for your britches, boys.

  12. Maybe that means the WDW Tower of Terror won’t get a retheme for a few more years. They’re looking for excuses to stop licensing the Twilight Zone from CBS.

  13. Sorry it seems like a juvenile passive aggressive power move response to her lawsuit. Akin to a company retaliating against a whistle-blower. Why not just allow the judicial system to consider and rule on the case then go from there? I am not in the industry nor am I familiar with the contract in question for which the lawsuit is based. However this really seem like a angry toddler in a sandbox would display. “I’m mad so I am taking my toys and going home”. It just seems like a defensive response and action. Both parties in my opinion could have handled things better. Again I will admit I am merey sharing my opinion of the situation based on the publisized actions of both parties “allegedly”. I have no 1st hand knowledge of either parties or the actual circumstances. I’m just another idiot with an opinion. Feel free to take it with a grain of salt.

  14. I think it is petty and purely a punitive measure to a female movie star. It’s a warning to others to take what your given and DONT cause any trouble! So she did what any American is entitled to do, get resolution of a situation this isn’t easily resolved and the the legal system is needed. It is very abhorrent to see a Corp that deals in family fun theme parks and movies act like such a Scrooge, cap’t hook and others. Makes me not want to watch their movies due to their blatant attack methods on a female star. FU Disney and your bad actions.

  15. I think Disney should do the right thing and renegotiate the contract with Scarlett Johansen. They have a long reputation of not honoring the contracts they’ve inked.

  16. I care less about another movie getting made and more about the pay inequity and treatment that Scarlett Johansson is going through from Disney. But way to show your priorities. #ShameOnDisney #TeamScarlett

  17. Everything I’ve seen says that Disney made certain representations to her as to how the film would be released and then reneged on them, trying to use the pandemic as a cover. Other studios when they went with this model ponied up additional cash to the main actors who had a stake in the theatrical release take. Current CEO Bob Chapek is not making any friends here. Former CEO Robert Iger is said to be unhappy as is Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. We can debate whether actors are worth what they’re paid until the cows come home but it comes down to Disney not keeping their word. So good on Scarlett.

  18. So petty on Disney’s part. This gigantic corporation that’s gotten rich at least partly off her back and they want to be petty? For shame, Disney.

  19. I think Disney is making power moves too soon. If they lose in court, I truly believe the Me Too movement should represent Johansson in a different light: Women can be mistreated and discriminated in the workforce without sexual harassment. Women receive less pay than men. She stood up for herself and now Disney is retaliating. Retaliation is a form of discrimination. She has every right to use her voice and take action when not heard. The facts stand. If they lose in court Disney’s reputation should suffer. If Disney treats her this way, whose to say other actors, like Natalie Portman, won’t suffer? A+ stars don’t need Disney. Disney needs them. I would love it if other A+ actors would stand up behind her when or if Disney doesn’t win their court case. After all, actors like Johnny Depp suffer when they lose. Why not Disney?

Women receive less pay than men. She stood up for herself and now Disney is retaliating. Retaliation is a form of discrimination. She has every right to use her voice and take action when not heard. The facts stand. Their smear opinion, that her lawsuit is horrific due to its disregard of whose prolonged effects of Covid?, has nothing to do with the butt load of money they still made off of her and others hard work and our suffering. Disney’s response was a tactical move to keep people watching them instead of following Johansson. Disney was scared of losing more money to the pandemic because people weren’t going to theaters. but they could have maintained their contract and released the movie on Disney+ afterwards. This wasn’t about us. This was just business. They cut their losses by gaining from Johansson’s paycheck and are trying to appeal to us by stating they care. They didn’t reduce the cost of Disney+ during the pandemic, now did they? If they lose in court Disney’s reputation should suffer but not just by the Me Too movement. Manipulating people to stick with them isn’t right. If Disney treats her this way, whose to say other actors, like Natalie Portman, won’t suffer? A+ stars don’t need Disney. Disney needs them. And we love A+ actors and actresses! I would love it if other A+ actors would stand up behind her when or if Disney doesn’t win their court case. After all, actors like Johnny Depp suffer when they lose. Why not Disney?

  21. WHAT???? THIS is their reaction????? After all of the bad publicity that they are getting for their ridiculous response to her lawsuit, I would expect that the PR person who wrote that statement would get fired, not that they would double down on Scarlett Johansson being the problem!

  22. she worked her heart out during the Past Phases of MCU, got nearly killed performing her stunts, after ironman she was the most popular character in the avengers. Made Billions for Disney at the box office, and this is how they treat her. Shame on you Disney , Shame

  23. Suing Disney Co seems like career suicide. other studios now be a little skittish to work with her.? Waa it worth it; I dont know why she sued, I missed the original story about this

  24. not sure how I feel about the film but it is a sad day that Disney cutting ties with Scarlet Johansson. She has been good for their marvel series and who knows what else she can bring. Seems she is being penalized for submitting a pay dispute to the courts. A time honored American way.

  25. Disney made a bad business decision in not honoring her contract for theater release. Then they compound it by trying to punish her and anyone else who might stand up for t heir rights. Bad Disney.

  26. Well what do you really expect from GREEDY DISNEY. Shame on you GD. Good for Scarlett you must step up for fairness regardless. I am very proud for stepping up to greedy Disney. They are for ever taking and want to give little. Fair is fair!

  27. That’s just an excuse. The Jungle Cruise is losing money and Disney is trying to get out of making more ride movies.

  28. That’s why Disney is so brazen in their response to ScarJo. They had this cancellation up their sleeve. I wonder if this is the real reason they gave such a jerk’s answer to her lawsuit.

  29. Disney deciding to punish Scarlett because she called them out on undermining the contract is disgusting. They are being greedy gaslighting bullies trying to make her out as the one in the wrong when it is clearly them. Just pay her what she is owed, make sure future contracts include their streaming service releases, and continue on as normal. Instead they decide to anger the Marvel fanbase and fans of Scarlett. #teamscarlett

    • Are you kidding me! The point was ,she needex to be payed what she was owed, any man would have renegotiated with, which would have been fair. Instead they chose to strip her of any future earnings. Because she was a woman, and that was the unfair part. All you can see was was the whole thing was canceled, not that a good person loss a great opportunity, huh, notvthe complete unfairness of it all?

    • Exactly, I have been excited for this for a couple of months now… now it’s canceled.. they should’ve recasted scarlets role at least if they are mad at her. What a shame

  30. Disney is acting like a spoiled child! “How dare someone say we did something wrong!”. Waaaa

  31. Disney is acting like quite the money hungry bullies in this situation. If it was in her contract she has every right to sue. Just apologize! and negotiate a new deal. If they black list her I will have lost all respect for them. Bye bye Disney+ subscription and I hope others feel the same.

  32. I think this is appalling! Disney stopped at nothing to secure Robert Downey Jr.’s continued presence in the Marvel universe, including cutting the salary of his Black co-star and when that wasn’t enough, firing and replacing him. As if we weren’t supposed to notice the difference between the two even. Scarlett Johansson has been a important mainstay here, and I noticed not one of her co-starts, not even the ones who have retired ,and have nothing to lose, have come to stand with her in solidarity. And they have have stood with male co-stars for far less serious situations. What disloyal cads. Shame on them. We should stand with her ,if they don’t!
