Summer is slowly coming to an end, but Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs is sending the season out in style with a pair of brand new items featuring their flavor of the month for September, lemon poppy seed, featured in both a cookie and a cake slice.

The artwork on the menu features Bonnie Brae, the mascot for the lemon poppy seed items.

Both items can be found in the respective display cases for cookies and cakes, showing off just how many chips Gideon’s puts on their stuff.

Bonnie Brae can also be found on select merchandise items, for those who enjoy the fanciful designs.

Lemon Poppy Seed Cookie – $6.00

The soft-baked cookie tasted like a sugar cookie with added lemon zest. Large white chocolate chips and mini lemon chips are on top to add another layer of sweetness and richness.

As you can see from these photos, they pack the surface of the cookie with lots of chips.

There’s another slightly crispy layer on top, thanks to a small sprinkle of sea salt.

We found it to be much sweeter than expected, but otherwise, this is a nice, zesty lemon cookie!

Lemon Poppy Seed Cake Slice – $9.00

The cake slice comes in a box noting its limited edition status.

This was fantastic. The lemon poppy seed cake itself has a different consistency than the normal cakes. It’s slightly dryer, almost like a sponge cake, but it still works really well.

The lemon in the cake is subtle, but it can be distinctly tasted alongside the poppy seeds. The icing is a lemon buttercream with a wonderfully rich consistency and a nice zing of citrus. It’s not too sweet or tart, but you taste the zest in each bite.

The white chocolate chips add a nice texture and richness to the slightly sweet slice.

Overall, while it’s somewhat different from the other Gideon’s Bakehouse cake slices we’ve tried, it’s still a winner, and one we would definitely get again.
