REVIEW: Souvenir Items Dazzle as Desserts Fizzle at Tokyo DisneySea’s 20th Anniversary “Time to Shine!” Celebration

Every celebration at Tokyo Disney Resort, no matter what, gets special desserts with souvenir serveware. Some of these are a bit of a dud, while others are additions we wish were permanent. But more often than not, they’re virtually clones of their predecessors with little to distinguish. The real stars are the souvenir plates and mugs after all! How does this round of desserts fare? Read on to find out!

There are three souvenir items across two desserts available at restaurants across Tokyo DisneySea—a plate, a mug, and a plastic light-up tumbler.

Blueberry Mousse Cake with Souvenir Plate – ¥850 ($7.74)

The Blueberry Mousse joins the souvenir plate this time, part of a trend lately to use mousse rather than cakes. The white chocolate medal on top with the 20th Anniversary logo is a nice touch, but otherwise this dessert is rather unremarkable. It tastes just like blueberry without tasting overly artificial, and certainly isn’t anything bad, but nothing to write home about.

The small souvenir plate, of course, is amazing, with all of the Disney friends in starburst designs with their special anniversary costumes.

Souvenir Tumbler – ¥600 ($5.46)

The souvenir tumbler is available with the purchase of any soft drink and comes with a Mickey design on the front along with a 20th Anniversary logo on the reverse, and multicolored LEDs are triggered by a small switch on the bottom.

Pineapple Jelly & Yogurt Mousse with Souvenir Cup – ¥950 ($8.65)

This was by far our favorite! But not for the dessert, which we will get to in a moment.

The mug that comes with the dessert is simply incredible, with an extremely prominent 20th logo on one side, and Disney friends in their 20th Anniversary garb floating around the mug itself.

The best part, however, is the incredible silhouette skyline of the park that’s imprinted inside of the mug! Dare I say, this mug is even better than the actual mug being sold at stores around the resort!

Topping this dessert is another 20th Anniversary logo white chocolate medallion, which is once again delicious.

This dessert was described as a pineapple jelly and yogurt mousse, but you could’ve fooled us into thinking the jelly was a weak lemon flavor. What really ruins this, however, is the yogurt mousse. Whoever decided turning the flavor of plain yogurt into a mousse pudding should’ve left that idea in the garbage where it belongs. For such a spectacular mug, the fact that the dessert is such a disappointment is a real shame.

If you’re looking to pick up these souvenir items, you can find them at counter-service restaurants across Tokyo DisneySea, we found them at Cafe Portofino in Mediterranean Harbor. Are you excited to pick any of these up on your next visit? Let us know in the comments below!
