GUIDE: How to Use Disney Genie+ & Lightning Lane, Paid Replacement to FastPass at Walt Disney World

Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane are the paid program replacing FastPass+, making its debut on October 19, and we have a full guide for you to the new system.

What is Disney Genie+?

Disney Genie+ is an add-on product to the complimentary Disney Genie feature. It can be accessed via the My Disney Experience mobile app.

Purchasing Disney Genie+ gives you access to Audio Tales, Disney PhotoPass AR Lenses, and Lightning Lane at select attractions.

The Cost

Disney Genie+ is a flat rate of $15 per ticket per day. The price is the same no matter how many days you visit or how many people are in your party.

How To Purchase Genie+

You can purchase Genie+ on the day of your visit, or you can add it to your vacation package.

To add Disney Genie+ services on the same day as your visit, you’ll want to navigate to the Disney Genie section of your My Disney Experience app.

To add Genie+ before your visit, you can add it to a vacation package online. It will show up as one of the options for customizing your ticket purchase before check-out.

Attractions Available Through Genie+ Lightning Lane

Over 40 attractions participate in the Genie+ Lightning Lane program. However, attraction availability is not guaranteed.

Wondering why some of your favorite rides aren’t on the list? The two most popular rides at each park are not included in Genie+ Lightning Lane. Instead, you will need to purchase Individual Lightning Lane separately for these attractions. For more information, check out our full guide to Individual Lightning Lane selections.

How To Use Lightning Lane

Once you have purchased Disney Genie+, you will be able to book experiences in the My Disney Experience app as early as 7:00 a.m. on the day of your visit. This is one of the biggest differences between Lightning Lane and FastPass+ (other than the price tag). Lightning Lane cannot be booked before the day of your visit, and only one experience may be booked at a time.

Once you have redeemed your Lightning Lane access or your redemption window has expired, you will be able to book another experience. There is no limit on the number of experiences you may book each day. However, Lightning Lane can only be used once per attraction per day.

Lightning Lane may be booked at more than one park per day if your ticket has Park Hopping abilities. Experiences at a park other than the one you hold reservations for must be for after 2:00 p.m.

Audio Tales

Audio Tales are short informational programs around the parks. Inspired by the Imagineering Field Guides, these clips will give you trivia and information about different areas around the parks.

Disney PhotoPass AR Lenses

Disney PhotoPass AR Lenses allow you to use special filters on your device’s camera to enhance your photos.

These lenses can only be accessed once you’ve entered the park. Some of them, like the Cinderella Castle 1971 filter, can only be used when you are in specific areas of the park.
