PHOTOS: Guests Go Through Lightning Lane Entrance Without Valid Access at Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom

There was plenty of confusion regarding Lightning Lane yesterday at Magic Kingdom. At Pirates of the Caribbean, we witnessed guests entering the Lightning Lane without having purchased access.

Guests were lining up and tapping their MagicBands, but kept walking when the Mickey head turned blue. Mickey should turn green if they have purchased access through Genie+ and tapped during their return time.

Mickey turns blue for guests using the Disability Access Service, but these guests were not going through the same process. The Cast Members were discussing the lack of valid access but letting the guests proceed anyway, likely due to the number of confused guests at the parks yesterday.

At the time, Pirates of the Caribbean had a 55-minute standby wait.

We don’t know if these guests knew they were skipping in line. It’s possible they had purchased Lightning Lane access for later in the day but thought they were able to enter immediately — which was a problem we witnessed at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in the morning. Cast Members were not immediately stopping guests from entering without valid access. All new systems require an adjustment period, and likely both Cast Members and guests will become accustomed to the new procedures soon.

  1. Disney cast members are going to have to get with it. You have to be consistent. People in the “have nots” stand by line are going to revolt when they see 100 people running through the lightning line.

  2. “Confused” my ass…. This is what you’re going to get as you make riding attractions only for the highest bidder. It’s a whole different world now. Sad.

  3. I hate the idea that guests will become accustomed to the new system. How often are guests repeatedly going to be there? I would imagine that every few days you have a more than 90% turnover in guests… meaning that in just a few days from now, most guests will be using the system for the first time.

If there is that much guest confusion, either they are not getting getting the cast guidance they require, or the system is flawed.

    • AP people are there a lot so they’ll definitely become accustomed to it. We are stationed in MS at moment and we average once a month.

  4. No excuse at pirates… Not a separate price ride… Seven dwarfs maybe some confusion although it clearly tells you the time to return…. C’mon Disney give people options of times with the genie plus.. and the option to see other times if you want to switch times or rides …. Yes you can look at the tip board but if you look then have to cxl you existing ride ..by then the time can change….

  5. WDW News has become so negative recently toward Disney. I subscribe to Disney blogs and websites to hear good news about places I love. i’m a 20 year DVC member and have beed on dozens of Disney vacations to WDW and DL, Vero, HH, and soon Alauni. Guys stay positive and treat Disney kind, we love them. The world is filled with negative, we don’t need any of this in regard to our favorite vacation destinations.

    • If you enjoy being given less and less of a value in the product, maybe look elsewhere. There are plenty of websites who won’t be honest about what they see.

  6. That Pirates cue is so cheap compared to the one at Disneyland. Not to mention the actual ride is twice as long there as well.

  7. This makes me miss paper-printed Fastpasses. It was an industry award-winning system that worked. People who complain it made waits longer (those that for some reason didn’t grab a FB themselves..), will now find themselves waiting much longer.

  8. Fast Pass worked the same way. You got a time and then you could enter. Some people are just taking advantage.

  9. They scan you once at the entrance and another time when you get to the ride. So either they were let through twice or turned around shortly after

  10. Tapping the fast pass and walking through past a bluelight is called riding the Disney fakepass. I do it sometimes and just act confused.

  11. Guests will always play the “I didn’t know/understand card but cadt members should know and stop the people. Smile and say this is not your time or you need to pay extra for this. No adjustment period needed.

  12. I would venture to guess that there are some guests that think the Genie + service enables them to join Lightning Lanes at ANY time for ANY ride.
