It’s the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, and all the parks are getting into the swing of the celebration. We have seen lots of merchandise releases, some new experiences, and most of all, tasty treats. So far today, we’ve had a hand-dipped Mickey Premium Bar, a nostalgic lunch of Mr. Toad items, churros, brownies with birthday cake mousse, sweet drinks, cupcakes, and much, much more.
In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Restaurantosaurus offers several themed menu items to celebrate the anniversary, so we just had to stop by the dig site for a dino-sized lunch.
Walt’s Main Street Fried Chicken Sandwich — $10.99
Crispy Fried Chicken Breast on a Warm Brioche Bun finished with Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato, and Roasted Garlic Aïoli served with Fries
This is a solid chicken sandwich. The fried chicken tastes like the classic Disney chicken tenders that we all know and love. There’s nothing special about the bun, but it’s a simple good bread.
Pickles, lettuce, and tomato all taste exactly as they do on any other Disney dish. The roasted garlic aioli is subtle to the point of almost being mistaken for mayonnaise if we hadn’t seen it listed on the menu. It’s a fine sandwich, but not much to write home about.
Altogether this is a very simple dish, but will fill you up and prepare you for the rest of your day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
50th Anniversary Celebration Milk Shake — $8.99
Vanilla Milk Shake with Strawberry Syrup, a Buttercream Rim, Whipped Cream Topping, and a Sugar Cookie coated with delicious, crunchy bits of Fruit-flaked Cereal
Okay, now this we loved. It’s a classic vanilla base with wonderful strawberry accents, and the “fruit-flake” cereal adds just the unique touch it needs.
The combo of the classic flavors with the sweetness of the cereal and buttercream works well together. And the cookie is delightful. This is a sugar cookie, but one which manages to not be overly sweet, even with the addition of the cereal bits.
This is truly a dessert that kids and adults will be happy to celebrate the 50th with.
