REVIEW: 50th Anniversary Enchanted Forrest Cake from Ale & Compass Restaurant at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

During the 50th anniversary celebration at Walt Disney World, most dining locations are serving special anniversary dishes. Naturally, numerous celebratory desserts are making their way to menus around the resort. We recently tried the Enchanted Forrest Cake from Ale & Compass Restaurant at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Enchanted Forrest Cake — $9

Black Forrest Cake with Mascarpone Mousse, Sour Cherry Center, Meringues, and a Milk Chocolate Crunch

Much like nearly every other 50th anniversary dessert at Walt Disney World, this one has a chocolate 50th icon.

We joked that the white chocolate rings were Harmonious barges.

Colorful meringues also come atop the square dessert.

Inside, there is a thin layer of the chocolate sponge cake you would expect from a traditional Black Forest cake. The whipped cream and other typical components of the dessert are replaced in this case, offering a mascarpone mousse and a sour cherry filling.

This unique take on the treat is very good. The dark chocolate cake mixed with the rich, creamy cheese-based mousse, all offset by the cherry filling is a great combination. There’s also a milk chocolate flavor that is present throughout from the exterior coating. The accompaniments of the white chocolate rings, the meringues, and the 50th chocolate decoration are unnecessary and don’t compliment this well, but they do make for a nice photograph.

Overall, much like a visit to Ale and Compass Restaurant, we would recommend this dessert.
