Entertainment Weekly Removes Mention of Animatronics on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Entertainment Weekly has removed the reference to audio-animatronics on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind that was previously included in their interview with Walt Disney Imagineer Wyatt Winter.

We reported on the interview last night. At the time, the article text stated Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind would include “animatronics, digital media, and the series’ signature soundtrack of pop-rock hits.” The article now only says, “digital media and the James Gunn-directed series’ signature soundtrack of pop-rock hits.”

This may mean that EW included the mention of animatronics by mistake, and there won’t be any on the attraction at all.

Last night’s report surprised us as we had heard all of the animatronics were budget-cut very early in development; we would be really surprised if there are any.

  1. So this will likely be screen-based. I’ve heard some mention that this is a clone of Escape from Gringotts (which had animatronics in the queue but the ride itself is screen-based and does have some reverse launch and spinning portions but isn’t really a great roller-coaster). Does anyone know more about the ride itself? I know there have been some blueprints released but is it really similar to Gringotts?

    1. If it’s similar to Gringotts, I won’t be disappointed at all, since Gringotts is an amazing attraction – a mix of elements that elevate it above a standard rollercoaster. Another attraction similar to Rip Ride Rockit would be a reason for disappointment.
