Here is what the surfboard sign looked like a few months ago, when it was announced that the show was permanently closed.

The supports for the sign remain on the thatched roof.

  1. Yes, I will miss it. How can a luau become an outdated thing? I really had it in my head, that with Disney’s drive to not just educate, or provide cultural experiences, and wanting EVERYthing to pertain to their Disney characters (Contemporary=Incredibles, GF=Mary Poppins, WL=Snow White, but probably should have been Pocahontas, and Poly=Moana,) they would have made the luau cove still a luau, but a character dinner with Lilo and Stitch, and Moana and Maui. That would have been awesome! Oh, I would have loved that. But alas, they can make more $ from DVC. :(
