MagicBand+ Bluetooth Pairing Issues Persist as Launch Day Nears

With MagicBand+ preparing to officially launch tomorrow, we hoped that Disney would’ve ironed out most of the kinks so the product is ready for guests. But alas, we continue to face issues with pairing on our MagicBand+ units even as launch day nears.

As we continue testing of our MagicBand+ before the launch tomorrow, we’ve found issues with pairing the bands to our phones via Bluetooth. While the band still functions perfectly fine as a standard MagicBand, allowing us to tap in to the parks, use Lightning Line, and make payments, the enhanced features only work when the MagicBand+ is paired to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

One of our MagicBand+ reads as “paired to device” despite refusing to connect via Bluetooth. What ends up happening is the app shows it as attempting to connect and times out after about 45 seconds.

As a result, we’re unable to modify any customization features or settings related to the band. When opening our Play Disney Parks App, we can still play the Fab 50 Quest game but only if the app is kept open.

But try as we might, even after restarting our phone several times, pairing still fails time and time again. This could be a warning of problems to come as Disney launches MagicBand+ officially tomorrow.

  1. A lot of phones have trouble pairing to many different devices since the last upgrades on the phones, it’s not just the magic bands.

  2. I was able to pair my Monsters University Magicband+ with no problem. My husband linked his 50th anniversary to his phone, which shows a picture of the band, but it’s saying it’s “not connected.”

  3. This was happening to one of mine and I couldn’t figure out why. My husband was finally able to do a factory reset by holding the button for 15 seconds and then it worked perfectly.

    • Yes we had trouble with 2 bands out of 3 then realised both were attempting to pair with android devices. When paired with iPhone they could be updated and managed but neither android phone could connect after the forced Magicband+ update. Off to guest services…..

  4. I got it to pair once on launch day but cannot since then. Not truly sure what makes this so great yet. The statues are silly, the Star Wars game is exhausting and the light feature is mediocre at best.

    • I got a Magicband+ a few days ago in Disney and had the same problem! I went and talked to a cast member and they helped fix this issue. Make sure oly ever link a Magicband+ to one device or this issue will hapen! That what caused it for me!

  6. I had same issue. Tried and tried to reconnect. Magic Band+ was not showing in Bluetooth devices available for pairing. I deleted the Disney app then downloaded again. It went through all the setup screens (one of which was Bluetooth pairing) then signed into my Disney experience to get everything loaded. I Went back to app and was able to immediately pair my MB+!

  7. I had the same problem. Did a reset on the magic band by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Still wouldn’t work. Restarted the phone and was able to pair.

  8. One of mine won’t pair, I’ve tried factory reset, I’ve tried reinstalling the app, nothing will work. Hopefully when we get to wdw someone can fix it.

  9. Pairs but won’t connect. Guest service members and online support were very helpful yet nothing worked. This is a bigger issue for Disney Tech genius’. They are going to have to fix it
