Five new menu items, including sweet-and-sour salads, are now available at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom.
The sweet-and-sour salad comes plain or with chicken or shrimp. There’s also a new grilled chicken sandwich, and the Lunar Lemonade and Sully Slush.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich – $12.59
Grilled chicken sandwich with citrus-soy mayonnaise and mango-cucumber slaw on brioche bun served with french fries
This would be better if the bun was toasted. Although ours sat for a moment before we chowed down, the chicken and slaw made the bun soggy almost immediately.
The chicken was also difficult to cut, which usually means it’s a tougher piece. We couldn’t even bite into the chicken.
Aside from that we actually enjoyed the flavors. The salsa is very refreshing and you get the mango.
We did not like the chicken, it was overcooked and too tough.
The mayo is decent but with the cut of chicken and liquidy bread from the toppings, it’s a hard pass.
Sweet-and-Sour Salad – $9.59
Mixed greens salad topped with pineapple, peppers, and crispy noodles served with sweet-and-sour dressing
The dressing is light so we’re not getting a lot of the sweet and sour flavoring.
We love the peppers, pineapples, and crunchy strips as they are different from what we usually expect and add to the dish.
The pineapples are soaked in the dressing but the peppers and red onion are fresh. The green onions are prominent as well.
We got a little bit of a nutty flavoring but that could be from the wontons.
The dressing is slightly sweet with Asian flavors. It’s more of a vinaigrette and is light and refreshing. We enjoyed this and would recommend it with one of the proteins. We like that it’s a more unique option but it would be great if there were more toppings.
Sweet-and-Sour Chicken Salad – $11.59
Mixed Greens Salad topped with Grilled Chicken, Pineapple, Peppers, and Crispy Noodles served with Sweet-and-Sour Dressing
This is more of a rotisserie chicken over grilled. The chicken is served cold, which is notable if you prefer it warm or fried.
It’s the same salad overall but the chicken makes it a lot heartier.
The chicken is bland. It’s just regular park chicken.
The dressings and toppings are the seasonings here.
Sweet-and-Sour Shrimp Salad – $12.59
Mixed greens salad topped with shrimp, pineapple, peppers, and crispy noodles served with sweet-and-sour dressing
This is the most expensive protein option and we get about eight shrimp, which is not bad. The other toppings are in super short supply, though.
We enjoyed the shrimp option over the chicken option. The shrimp adds a sweetness that complements the overall salad.
It’s frozen shrimp but we were surprised there was really no fishiness.
It’s a little mushy and there isn’t seasoning but the toppings are fine.
The shrimp is also lighter than the chicken.
If you’re a shrimp fan you’d like this salad a lot. It was our favorite salad option.
Lunar Lemonade – $5.99
Minute Maid lemonade with desert pear syrup over ice
First of all, this shimmers! We almost didn’t see it at first but when you hold it up to the light you can see it.
Taste-wise, the Lunar Lemonade is not as tangy as you would expect lemonade to be.
The desert pear syrup is strong and we get the pear. There’s also a slight artificial syrup aftertaste.
The lemonade isn’t as refreshing as we’d like. The shimmer is cool but we’d recommend something different. It’s too artificial and not worth the price.
Sully Slush – $5.99
Blue raspberry slush with purple whipped cream
This is a regular blue raspberry slush with purple whipped cream. Blue raspberry is usually a sour flavor but there is zero tang in this drink.
It tastes more like cotton candy. It might be the whipped cream that’s giving us such a sweet flavor.
If you like a sweet slushy, this is for you. It takes a cute photo, too, but is definitely not our fave.
Overall
This menu update was mostly a bust. The drinks and sandwich weren’t great. We enjoyed the variety the salads bring and appreciate more unique options. We recommend giving the salads a try but would pass on everything else here.
