RUMOR: Walt Disney World Railroad Reopening January 1

Could Walt Disney World fans’ long awaited wish finally come true? According to recent reports, guests may be able to kick off 2023 with a ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom.

The Walt Disney World Railroad at the Magic Kingdom has been closed for more than four years, but more signs of an imminent reopening are pulling into the station. Recent reports were indicating that Disney hoped to have the train running in time for the Christmas crowds, but with that looking unfeasible, Cast Members are now saying they are trying to open on January 1.

The Railroad hasn’t run since 2018, when it closed to accommodate TRON Lightcycle / Run construction in Tomorrowland. The new track running through the TRON site has been completed, and we’ve seen the train testing out the new route. We also recently caught some of the new TRON-related audio that has been added to the Railroad.

  1. I assume this week and next week would also be busy. I doubt seriously there is a lot of construction going on at Tron during Christmas week. January 1st sounds more like an administrative thing driven by Finance rather than an operational need.
