It appears that the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. could possibly be reopening on May 1.
As we were looking at the My Disney Experience app, we noticed that it lists the Tomorrowland gift shop refurbishment only through Sunday, April 30.
However, we are taking this with a grain of salt as previous announcements of the reopening of the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. by Disney have been delayed repeatedly.
Last November, we reported that the shop’s closure had been extended through Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Magic Kingdom and appeared to be reopening the following day. However, that date came and went, and the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. remained shuttered. Last month we reported that the construction walls finally came down, and rolling hedges surrounded the building.
As you can see in the above photo, taken prior to the shop’s closing, a number of the details from the 1994 reimagining have been removed from the building during the refurbishment. Gone is all the decorative dentil trim on the large arch and columns on either side of the entrance. The arched dotted trim has also been removed. The large gears disappeared last summer. In December of last year, the giant clock, electrical tower mural, and themed signage also suffered the same fate.
It’s also quite possible that the shop will receive a new name once it reopens. Last month, we noticed that the “Tomorrowland” part of Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. was covered by a black tarp.
Previously functioning as the Space Mountain gift shop, it is being refurbished to serve double duty as the TRON Lightcycle / Run gift shop.
TRON Lightcycle/Run will open to guests on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Earlier this month, Cast Members were among the first to ride this highly anticipated Tomorrowland attraction. Annual Passholders, D23 Gold Members, and Disney Vacation Club members will have previews in the upcoming weeks.
